  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Under body panels detaching

I had my local garage do my oil change this time as opposed to my dealer. I inspected all the plastic retainers and sure enough 3 were missing. These do not or cannot pop out on their own. Definitely my dealer who lost/forgot to put them back in. Good news is he had retainers so we replaced the missing ones. I suggest buying a bag full of these on ebay for dirt cheap and keeping them in the trunk. After removal the end that gets inserted into the hole is rather splayed apart and takes some coaxing to get back in, most likely why they omitted a few at the dealership. Here is what you need. http://www.ebay.com/itm/371222529360?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

This is yet another example of how easy it is to screw up oil/filter changes on Hyundai's -- Surprised they would use these flimsy plastic clips in a rather important area. And, of course, it doesn't help when they're working on someone else's car and don't really care all that much.

Easily done properly and all the retainers put back in if you do it yourself. The problem is the dealerships in general or maybe I should say the mechanics, don't give phoque if they drop a few.

This situation with loose panels is a perfect example of why the oil/filter change procedure on Hyundai's is not difficult or complex, but can lead to mechanics' screw-ups. The engineers definitely did not follow the K.I.S.S. principle on the 5.0 engine with the panel set-up and the use of a couple dozen "push pin" fasteners (push pins?).

If they left out enough pins to cause loose panels, I would hate to see how the actual oil and filter change was done.

I have "done it myself" for many decades, including ten years on Hyundai's - precisely to avoid crap like this.
