Under what circumstances can i get locked inside the trunk

Just asking ... why would they even think of this feature .

To open the trunk from inside , in case i'm locked in the trunk .

They have been in trunks for quite a few years now. While probably only a few people died each year form being locked in a trunk, the lawyers probably thought it was wise to put the emergency release in there. I think all vehicles come with them but not sure.

A mandate in 2002 required all cars to feature a standard glow-in-the-dark trunk-release lever, which opens the trunk from the inside in the event of an emergency.

As many as 20 people die each year while trapped in a car trunk, where temperatures can rapidly rise to deadly levels.

Some are kidnapping victims, and others are children who become trapped inside while playing in the car. Older cars — those manufactured prior to the 2002 regulation — are the culprits in most trunk deaths.

Child safety or for adults that for some reason decided to climb in the trunk or was forced inside against their will and get locked in.

Expect to see more regulation and/or seat sensors as kids still get left in cars. Some in the car are negligent parents, trunks is usually playing Hide & Seek. My son hid in the washing machine but my wife got him out.

I did not realize its such a danger to kids that some have lost their life getting locked in the trunk .

Its certainly a step in the right direction .
