  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

undercoating?

May I ask you this.
May be it's just me but why drives a large car where there seems more fun driving a smaller sized vehicle?
Unless you have large family to haul over the weekend. :)

As for sound proofing the car, I placed the WeatherTech floor mats over the existing ones with the exception of the driver side where it may interfere with the accelerator pedal.

I prefer comfort over "fun". Small cars suck.

And it seems beyond silly to put weathertech matts on all places EXCEPT the area that needs the most protection. Not a well thought out plan.

What did you mean by "all places"?
And why are you being so "anal" about it?

This is funny stuff. I can just about guarantee the majority of road noise is coming from the tires. Upgrade to a quieter tire and the problem is solved. But it is funny to hear some of the noise reduction ideas.

Actually I was referring to the other thread that was started about insulating the wheel wells.

Just an FYI.

Since I was in a accident, they ha dto replace the front passenger door, front pass fender and repair the front bumper cover. In their list of materials was undercoating for teh parts. So teh car already has a coating throughout it.

Ok, in this post Im referring in general to all post in this subject. Well due to manufactures designing cars not to rust now, the main emphasis now for undercoating would be for sound insulation. This is a completely different requirement/ problem area. Sound requires complete coverage , skip a couple inches here and there and it doesnt work well. Its like a door weather stripping seal that has an inch missing-- not good. In Europe they have businesses that do sound insulation, which is what we need here. I know this from reading other posts. Its expensive and complex to sound proof a car. Yes different tires will help. Patch areas here and there and it will help some. But in the end what are you happy with. The shops in Europe, Im told charge 2,3,4 thousand dollars--- but do complete jobs. If you have an R-SPEC then love that v8 sound. If the noise really bothers you then maybe you should have gotten a different car--- Their are a lot noisier cars than the Genesis. And remember the Genesis is a real steal, its 10s of thousands of dollars less than other LUX competition with all things considered. Thanks 7i Bigblock
