  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It happened... the first real problem I've had with this car. I was leaving the gym parking lot and as I reversed the car, I heard a loud crack and a scraping noise. Turns out I parked too close to the curb and the underpan? or the splash guard, whatever you call it, got cracked and was hanging off the car.

I was able to break some of the plastic off so that it wasn't scraping the ground when I drove, but the rest is still hanging on, broken and unsightly. I tried to get it off, but the 3/8 inch socket I had was too small for the screw and the 7/16" too big... anyone know what size this thing is?

I'm guessing 13/36 or 14/36...

This seems like an easy fix, but does anyone have experience with this?

These screws on my 2011 3.8 sedan are metric, either 8 or 10 millimeter. The ground clearance of the lowest part I measured of the under carriage on my Genesis is about in the center of the engine with a ground clearance of 5 1/2"

In addition to the millimeter sockets you will need a Phillips head screw driver since there is a push in screw holding the pan up also.

Those Koreans and their metric :p I should have figured that out, but now I know what the 8 stands for on the screw head.

Thanks for letting me know about the Phillips head. The only thing keeping the underpan on right now is the sockets, so I didn't see those. I could probably still drive around for a bit with the underpan off completely, but will probably just drive to the dealership and have them buy the parts for me.

Aha I found it https://www.hyundaipartsdepartment.com/parts/2012/HYUNDAI/GENESIS%20COUPE/2.0T/?siteid=217704&vehicleid=1502561&section=BODY%20HARDWARE&group=RADIATOR%20SUPPORT&subgroup=RADIATOR%20SUPPORT&component=Under%20cover

Apparently it's called an under cover and only costs ~$30-40 bucks. For my car it was attached with 4 hexagonal screws and no Phillips head. I bought the socket and got the front 2 screws off, but was unable to reach the back 2 as I was not on a ramp. Glad this was a cheap fix.
