  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Over Memorial Day weekend my wife and daughter used my 2013 Genesis to travel out of state to visit her father. While traveling through a small town in W. Virginia they experienced a blow out on one of the Michelin tires. These tires had 55k miles on them but were always rotated and properly maintained. It didn't appear that they ran over anything in the road. This occurred at noon on the Saturday of the MMD weekend. Luckily AAA towed them to a tire shop in the small town that had agreed to stay open and get them safely back on the road. My wife called me and I told her to have them put 4 new tires on the car. They didn't have the Michelins in stock but they did have four Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTZ radials. They installed and balanced everything and had them back on the road by 2 p.m..

I've seen a lot of posts on here about what tires seem to work better than others on these cars. They were kind of forced to take what the tire shop had, but now after putting 2k miles on the new tires I am very pleased. Quiet ride, good handling on dry and wet pavement. Will have to see about the snow once winter gets here. We'll see how they wear and what kind of mileage I get out of them. I can say that I am very disappointed in the Michelin tires. Wife says a chunk of rubber blew out of the sidewall about the size of a half dollar. Don't know if I'll ever buy another Michelin tire.

Anyway, does anyone on here have any experience with these Uniroyal GTZ's?

Sidewall road damage is not that unusual. I picked up a sharp object in the sidewall of one of my tires during the first 4 months of ownership. The brand new tire was replaced on my dime. Besides, 55,000 miles on original tires is excellent in my opinion. I would kwitcherbichin and enjoy the new tires and the fact that your loved ones got safely home. You have no way of knowing what your wife may have run over during that trip and at this point it's irrelevant.
