  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Unreasonable Genesis service contract and terrible customer care service

OP, you say in your first post that the dealer said they won’t change your oil till 10,000 miles. I don’t believe the dealer told you that.

I didn't mention about oil change in my initial post. I was talking about scheduled maintenance. It may or may not include oil change.

Your credibility is going downhill fast, at least with this reader.

How is that so? You can go back to my original post and see if you can find 'oil change'.

what other service would you be getting at 6200 miles...

I checked the GV80 Owner's Manual again. Here it is what they recommend:

Under normal usage conditions:
The GV80 Owner's Manual recommends 12 inspections and the following maintenance services at 8K miles or 12 months, whichever comes first:

- Replace engine oil and engine oil filter
- Add fuel additives
- Inspect air cleaner filter
- Replace cabin air filter

Under severe usage conditions, which applies more to my case (I drive short distances to and from work and around 5K annually):
- Replace engine oil and engine oil filter every 5K miles or 6 months.
- Perform other maintenance services and inspections more frequently depending on the conditions.

I would expect Genesis follow their own recommendations listed in the owner's manual.

so it is an oil change....

also, if you got a service at 3k miles, youd be due at 8k miles under the severe usage conditions. not 6200 miles. (6200-3000 = 3200)

also, your mygenesis page will show you what usage applies to you and when you should get your next oil change.

Why only look at the miles? The owner's manual says 8K or 12 months, whichever comes first.

ok,

has it been 12 months since july?

It is at 12 months, not 12 months after the previous service. The dealer set the service interval at 6 months, and now it says I am 50+ days overdue every time I started the vehicle.

If they are going to wait out the full mileage or full time, then they should have set the minder for 12 months.

It does not work the way you think. The change is xx miles or xx months after the last oil change. Why do you think it would be after some unrelated event, like when you bought the car? If that, why not 12 months after it was built, or ordered or whatever? The whole point of the schedule is that they don't want the oil currently in the engine to be in there more than 6200 miles (in your specific case) or 12 months. You have not yet exceeded either of those limits.

So, we are now saying that the 3K service did include an oil change?
I am not sure if the 3K/6 month service includes oil change. I don't have the paper.

The owner's manual clearly indicates it is at 12 months, not 12 months after the previous service. That's why they set the 6 month reminder. The purchase date is the only thing buyers can count on. As you said, the actual life of the vehicle is apparently longer than 12 months.

Anyway, thank you all for sharing your thought. Hope you enjoy your vehicles and experiences.

its not at 12 months, its every 12 months for normal conditions.

thats why the normal maintenance interval says 12, 24, 36, 48, etc. or 8k, 16k, 24k, 32k, etc

what does your mygenesis.com page say for you?

the 3k did. what else would they have done at 3k? just looked at it and said "yep, its a gv80"

you dont understand the manual. 12 month intervals. which is why it says "maintenance intervals"

Sorry, but you are not understanding what the manual is saying. Maybe they dumbed it down too much.
Anyway, I don't think we are going to get anywhere here. We tried.
The dealer should have just humored you and did another too soon change. It's not a great cost to eat. (It's likely that they are only going to do six oil changes for you, before you have to pay for each.)

It reminded me to schedule a service long time ago.

I've always interpreted oil changes as incremental from the last change. If you changed the oil at 11 months and 2 week would you expect to do it again at 12 months?
