In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I feel so weird saying that, "upgraded from 2013 Lexus GS350", but it couldn't be closer to the truth.

I must admit that most think I'm crazy, as this is now my 38th car since 2004. I trade every 4-6 months, or 10-12k miles. My goal on each and every buy is to buy for a price lower than Kelly Blue Book trade in value. You have to look hard, but the deals are out there. I've found that when I execute as above on the buy side, I can trade for a price close to what I paid, and in some instances make $1-2K.

I bought the 2013 GS 350 in September for $31k with 24k miles on it. Traded in this morning for $29km with just over 35k miles on the clock. So for those of you doing the math, I "lost" $2k on this trade. I look at it from a different angle and figure I just spent $2k on an 11k mile lease...pretty good deal. The kicker, those 11k miles were all business miles, reimbursed at .56/mile, tax free....do the math...

So back to this morning's transaction. While traveling on business this week I spent a couple hours in the hotel looking at the new (2015) Genesis, first looking at used ones to see what has already hit the market. I really didn't see anything south of $30k yet, and those that were close were base 3.8's.

As I begin to scour the local DFW market, I saw some pretty aggressive pricing on remaining new 2015's, with many dealers running with the E-price. I will admit that I phoned in a favor from a friend to work for the best deal possible.

My typical buy for below "kelly blue book trade-in" might seem crazy, but it was doable. I priced out a 2015 used Genesis 3.8 with the signature package, and the trade-in value when running with 15k miles was $32-34k.

My goal: buy a new 3.8 Genesis Sig for less than $32k.

Final pricing:

2015 Genesis 3.8 RWD w/ Signature Package
MSRP $43,315
Purchase price prior to TTL: $29,638

That's more than 30% below MSRP, and this vehicle is new. 41 miles, NOT a demo. A 5.0 with an MSRP of $52k could have been had for $16,500 off sticker....that is not a typo, and I don't qualify for any special rebates.

TTL was nominal, no dealer-adds, and a reasonable $125 doc fee. Minimal sales tax as I had the shelter of a $29k trade-in value to offset the $29.6 purchase price.

Now back to my title, "upgraded from Lexus GS350". Out of my prior 37 cars, almost everything has been high-line, lots of E350s, 528i's, Jag XF, Jag XJ-R, Corvette, the list goes on. Only one Lexus though, and it bored me to death. No sport factor whatsoever, it wasn't the ultimate quiet vehicle everyone touts, it wasn't agile, it wasn't that quick, the factory stereo sucked, and it had been in the shop 3 times already for stupid little things such as a parking sensor going out. Other than the looks, there wasn't much I liked other than the free cookies and peanut M&M's in the Lexus waiting room....

This is my second Genesis, my prior was a base 2012 3.8, with minimal options. It was a great car, but ultimately a fuel-filling problem and poor dealer service lead to my sending it off to its next owner.

I must say that with 50 miles on this new generation it might be one of the best all-around cars I've owned. Quicker and more nimble than the GS350, much better stereo, love the pano sunroof, nicer and higher-end feeling interior, and in my opinion better looks. At a sub $30k price point, I couldn't be happier with the deal and I feel like I just robbed a bank!

One mod prior to leaving dealer's lot....get rid of the ugly "H" logo on the trunk. Done.

Congrats and welcome! What color did you get?

You chose the fastest color :-)

Casablanca white with a black interior. Hard call between that and the Parisian Gray over black leather.

Congrats, you did indeed choose the fastest color. I sent you a PM, please let me know if you didn't get it.

Congratulations on your new Genesis! I also have a Casablanca White 3.8 with Signature Package. I paid $37k for mine. :o

Welcome! I came from Lexus as well. Gs300 then an ISF before picking up my first Genesis.

Enjoy it!

I always like seeing posts from users who came to Genesis from other luxury brands.

I sometimes see a member opine that the Genesis is not likely to be considered by drivers of other lux brands, Germans in particular. I had a Sonata and Azera prior to my G2. Before that Infinitis, most recently a G35. While I had my Sonata, I was considering an Azera. I parked next to a guy who had an Azera, and I asked him how he liked it. He said that he had traded a Mercedes E Class, and he said that he did not miss the E Class a bit.

I think this shows that the strategy to split Genesis off as a separate brand has a decent chance to succeed. While I don't think Genesis will put a big dent in the Germans at first, there will be buyers who trade from Lexus, and yes even a few Mercedes, BMW, and Audi owners.

We do not get deals like that here in MD/VA area. Good kill. I'll have you find my next Genesis in 1-2 years lol.

I owned German cars including BMW 540s, MB E55 AMG. Got tired of $hit breaking down all the time, and astronomical depreciation on high end German rides.

Congrats on the purchase! If you got a 3.8L w/ signature package for sub-30k, I wonder what a base 3.8L would cost. 27k?

They had a couple left on the lot. They would have been right at $26k. Tempting for the value, but giving up quite a bit of goodies by not at least getting the Sig package. Lexicon sound, sunroof, and xenons were really a requirement for me. Nothing against the base, but like my 2012, the base will be fighting an uphill battle for resale considering the amount of units in the fleet and rental market.

So awesome! Can you let me know the dealer? I'm gonna try picking up the 2016 model next year at a good price (I really want the LED DRL's).

Also, how would you rate the overall smoothness, quietness, and refine-ness of the Genesis vs your old 2013 GS350?

I'm I the market for the same car in dfw right now. Looks like I need to start calling around to find a deal near this.

Deals could change after Monday the 29th. Supposedly the E-Price that these deals are based on was only good through the end of the month. From my shopping around it appeared there were a ton of 5.0's with a bunch being demos, and the 3.8 inventory is starting to look pretty picked over for remaining 2015's.

Smoother than the GS350 (and quicker). I'm not sure what the actual numbers would show, but the Lexus just always seemed to be straining when goosing it a bit.

The quiet level is night and day, which surprised me as Lexus is known for being ridiculously quiet. No squeaks or rattles, even with the music turned up quite loud. The GS would rattle like crazy on the lock and window controls with even a subtle hint of bass, it drove me nuts!

Overall refinement is also superior in the Genesis. I just took my wife to dinner tonight and she was shocked how much nicer the Genesis was over my GS350. Don't get me wrong, the Lexus was a very nice car, but it just felt insanely dated compared to the Genesis. Pretty sad considering the Lexus was introduced only about 12 months prior to the G2.

As far as the dealer, they'd prefer to not be acknowledged as this deal was a result of a friend calling in a favor. However, I am confident that if you offer $30-$31k right now you'd probably get a deal done, at least in the DFW market.

I had a Lexus gs350 never had a problem imo the Lexus could have been a little quieter but the ride in the Genesis is not that much better still under the gs but for a Hyundai yes they compete very well 306hp Lexus and 311 G2 just a little top heavy

Let us know how the quietude stays over time. My cabin was super quiet but now it is not, dealer is going to replace drivers side door seal.

nice.. I have sent out a few inquries to a couple dealers throughout DFW. fingers x'd since it says tomorrow the promo is over.:(

coming from a lexus ES300 years ago and currently have GS400 i was looking at the GS350 for a long time... for some reason the Genesis just looks better, more aggressive looking and more features than the GS350... i feel i made the right choice...
