Upgrading from Primacy's to PS4S is a crazy experience

I know you haven't had the new tires very long but I am planning to replace my Primacy tires within the next couple of weeks and would love to have the OP's updated thoughts. I have been trying to decide between the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 and the Pilot Sport 4 S. I am in North Scottsdale and all other things being equal (such as your reports), I am leaning toward the 4 S. I don't track my car but I do want performance in the turns and the Primacy seemed to let go way too early. I don't think that the Primacy tires should ever have been put on a car with this much power. Would you please give us an update?

I know they won't be quite as good as the Pilots but last I checked at tirerack.com they had Bridgestone Potenza Summers on clearance, so for the price might be worth a look, and would be 10x better than the Primacy performance wise, but probably only get 20k out of them.

Funny thing us I asked for PSAS4 tires and they read it as PS4S and before I approved the order he basically convinced me to give them a try instead of the all seasons. I don't regret it, especially since the chance of them seeing sub 40 degree weather is extremely slim, even if I'm in NC when it snows during the day it's usually 40 or higher. Worst case scenario I could bring my wife's volvo during those trips.

All of that said, I'm accepting the fact that I'll be replacing the tires in approximately two years or less depending on how I use them (aka how often I get to NC during the year) since central FL there's almost no potential for "using" the tires since all of the roads are straight.

In my opinion the only negatives are changing the tires sooner than all seasons, and cold weather if that applies to you. literally everything else has been better with them.
 
So, is it better to run the front a couple of pounds higher than the rear? On my 2023 2.0 I run 36 front and 38 rear! Should I switch?
The G70 comes with smaller tires up front, if you look at the door card it says 38 in the front and 36 in the rear. If you have a RWD and bought matching tires for all four wheels then you'd do the same psi on all four tires in that case.

My 23 G70 2.0 has the smaller tires in front (factory installed) and I believe the door card states 36 all around. I’ll check it latter and confirm.

Just checked. The card indicates 36 psi for front and rear even though the front are smaller than the rear.

I am willing to live with changing the tires sooner and the cold weather is minimal for me (see my other thread). So unless someone gives me strong information contrary to my current leanings, the 4S it will be.

One other question: there are several 4S tires in my size. Most are XL rated but one is HL rated and since my car is electric, and relatively heavy, I am leaning toward that one. Any thoughts on whether that makes sense or am I missing something? The XL is 102 rated and the HL is 105 rated.

Actually if you have a 2.0 it's probably because there's less weight on the front so it doesn't need as much pressure in the tire to stand up.

Actually the RWD version gets the PS4 tires here. They just assume that an AWD car will be purchased in cold climates so they put the crappy primacy tires on them. When I bought my AWD car I asked them if they'd swap the PS4 tires onto it and they said they weren't allowed to do it. If that's true or not, who knows.

You might be surprised how good the Potenza Sports are. I bought a set of 245/40R18s for backup/rain track duty. I did a track sprint last year on them and let my son run our primary track set (Kumho V730) on his G70. My best lap on the heavier Stinger was actually faster than his. Realistically, tires like these are plain overkill for daily commuting. The only times they really shine is in spirited mode and running sport-tire-worthy twisties, like the Dragon.

At the time, I didn't have a better set of wheels for the Potenzas, so I parked them on the Stinger OEM 18x8s. Even on those, they worked quite well. I've since swapped them onto 18x8.5 Enkei's and the better support made turn-in even sharper.

Had them on our first Infiniti, they were a great performing tire, but IIRC at 20k they were down to the bars, I was a lot younger then though and drove accordingly lol.

Mileage is one aspect I cannot comment on, since I don't run them as dailies. 20k sounds reasonable for this sort of tires.

Granted, this one isn't the latest and greatest, but realistically I don't need the bestest of the best and don't much care to pay for the privilege. They were on clearance sale on TireRack and a fantastic bang-for-the-buck. My philosophy is to buy tires cheap and so I'm not concerned about getting my money's worth by squeezing every last mile out of them. I swap them out early, preferably with another set that I score a great clearance deal on. A brand new tire of comparable class will ALWAYS outperform a worn-out heat-cycled tire.

I currently have the Potenza Sports (on 3rd set) and really like them. For me, the only real difference between these the and PS4's are the Potenza's wear much quicker. I bought my current set last Spring on Tirerack for like $450 since they had like 20 of these tires that were 3 years old lost in the warehouse. I generally only get 15,000 miles out of them, which includes using them in driving events.
 
Curious if anyone has tried the BMW Star version of the PS4S on the G70? Yes, I know it was ‘designed’ for BMW, but is there really much difference between performance cars that would materially affect tire design?
