  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As most of you know, the V-6 cars do not come with a dimming driver's mirror at any price. Why this was left out of the advanced or tech packages is a mystery.

This is an annoyance I'm working on solving. It seems there is no real difference between the R-Spec mirror and the V-6 tech package except the glass itself. How it gets the signal to dim or it connects electrically is unknown. My local dealer is going to see if it can be done unless someone here has the answer already. Results pending.

I would see if they can compare the wiring harnesses from a car with it and one without it. If they are the same I would assume simple plug and play of the dimmable mirror

My 2012 V6 has auto dimming mirrors (3). Standard on the Tech Premium in Canada. On my 2009 too !

I bet the hardware is there. I had a 2009 with only premium pkg and installed lighted door sills . I order the sills on line. The hardware was there and I only had to plug in the door sill. It is cheaper to have it in all vehicles rather than some with and some without.

The auto dimming is all contained in the mirror. On Corvette forum this upgrade is done quite often. The plug on the mirror is different so they have to get a used wire harness also, at least on the early C5 corvettes.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but how hard was it to change the door sills? Was thinking about doing it myself...

As far as the dimming mirror goes if I was going to replace my side mirrors I would love to get the folding ones... probably much more involved though.

So I guess only US spec cars get screwed on the mirrors!!?? Sigh..........

Dealer says they will take a shot at it for $120. From what they can tell without much more research, the only difference is the mirror, so hopefully plug and play. The mirror is only $55, so worst case is I've blown $175.

Ordering the mirror tomorrow.

Door sills are a cake walk. Just use something plastic to pry up the old ones so you don't scratch anything. Converting to folding mirrors is another story entirely.

I bet that they just plug in and work, I'm suer that the wiring is there. Fast55 are replacing the mirror assembly or just the glass on the side mirrors?

Door sills are extremely easy. 15 min for both.

Dammit.

Dealer called me and says the "mirror" P.N. shows up and is some type of bracket that holds the mirror, not the glass??!

WTF!!!??

I'm in OC tomorrow (Orange County for those outside So. Cal.) and don't even want to consider the effing drive back to VC with the 4th coming up, so visiting the dealer for further investigation will not happen until next week.......

:o

Stand by...............

OK, now they seem to think I would have to order the unpainted mirror assembly for $400+ dollars to get the glass I need. I find it hard to believe there's no way to get the glass without the rest of it. I'm going to keep shopping around and see if I can find something used if I hit a wall. I'm not giving up yet, but no way I'm wasting over $400 for just a mirror.

I think that's it, but they tell me there's more to it than just the glass. Some mount, motor, etc. I guess I should be happy they're willing to fork it over for cost.

No way to get "just" the glass they say. If that's the case the project is dead. However, I have a friend in the used parts business and he will be looking into it as well.
