If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I connected my I phone to the USB port in the armrest of my new '13 3.8 this morning . It connects, but does not charge. Is it designed this way? I know there is a cigaret style charging port next to it, but hat requires an adaptor. In my wife's 2013 pathfinder, the USB connection also charges the phone.

I have my Classic iPod connected via an ordinary Apple USB cable to the socket
you stated..Alls good:- Plays & Charges..
My iPhone4 is connected via a USB charger in the second power socket..AOK..
Try rebooting your iPhone ..

Are you trying to charge an iPhone 5 using the Apple-supplied USB/Lightning cable? If so, that will not work.

The USB plug is a smart plug that does not understand Apple's new Lightning architecture. So, the phone and car do not get along this way.

You need to get the Hyundai 30-pin iPod adapter and then get one of Apple's 30-pin to Lightning adapters. That works great.

You really don't need to connect a USB, do you? Since you can stream audio to your Genesis, just connect the 12 volt plug if you need to charge.

oops:- we are All back to front""

Mercurge -> Which iPhone are we talking about? ;)

Correct- it just seems odd that you can't charge with the cable. The 12v Connection is upright. And after adding a connector, it will be tight. I will just do that.

Thanks

Its not apple. USB standards only allow for .5A. In order to charge properly you need at least 1A with modern phones/devices. It WILL charge but slowly and won't show the charging icon.

Do a test. Check battery %. Leave screen off and plugged in for 30 minutes. Check % again.

If you want a good charger, this works nicely:

It is Apple. The problem is not related to the current supply in the car's USB port, it is the communication between the port and the device. An iPhone will charge perfectly fine through the USB port using the stock Hyundai iPhone cable and the 30-pin to Lightning adapter. The problem seems to be communication with a phone natively over Lightning. The car and phone don't seem to do whatever handshake is required with the USB standard, and the phone cycles rapidly between charging and not charging.

Older devices charge fully at .5A

I find this odd. I have an Iphone 5 and it charges and shows my content and all my info for the songs with photos. Using the regular apple cable jacked into the usb under the armrest.
I just got the 13 last week.

Edit
I do not use the genesis cable. Just the lightning one that came with phone

Awesome, it sounds like the 2013 UI and USB interface are substantially upgraded. The 2012 does not show album art.

I also find that interesting. I wonder if the $345 update to the lexicon system would give those features. hhhmmmmm

When I plug in the IPhone 5, the Display instant states "Reading Ipod" few seconds later, its playing the playlist. It shows the Album Artwork, and can use the navigation to scroll through the songs, albums, playlists etc. The phone is definitely charging. Would knowing the version or anything on the Genesis Help anyone?

Tengo un iphone 6s y conecto a puerto USB del Genesis y no carga ni muestra icono de carga.

My 09 ( pre-Bluetooth) usb input and charge aren’t working. New iphone has no aux, just lightning. What would You recommend for me to be able to play music? get Usb fixed? upgrade to a Bluetooth receiver?

The USB ports (up to and including 2012 at least) do not output enough power to charge a modern phone. They can charge an old-school style iPod (3rd or 4th gen iPod Touch, for example), or run a bluetooth audio receiver. But it cannot charge a modern phone. This is an unfortunate, but normal design specification on our cars.
