  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I have a 2011 Genesis 4.6, when playing USB sticks, it always skips the first second or two of the song. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks.

I've never had that happen, but I did find that the system would not recognize a SanDisk stick, while HP works fine. Do you get this on more than one stick? The point is that apparently not all sticks are created equal...

All of my USB drives are SanDisk 4 GB Cruzers and they work fine.

As to the OP, what method/software was used to create the MP3 images?

Interesting - I have a SanDisk 16GB Cruzer and my system would not recognize it. I haven't tried any other SanDisks because the HP I replaced it with works fine, so I don't know if this is a generic SanDisk problem or a problem with this particular drive.

Nearly all of them are CD rips using LAME encode, VBR (variable bit rate). I'll try another USB today, and no, I won't try to do CBR because that means I have to re-rip everything I have...

I haven't experimented with this thoroughly, but I believe I've picked up on a hint of an intermittent skip of the first half second or second of tracks from USB. I believe the issue (if it's not just in my imagination) has gotten a little worse as I've filled the stick up. (HP 2GB) Thus, I suspect it is related to access time due to either utilization percentage or raw file set size. Been meaning to try the exact same song list on a 2X of 4X larger stick to investigate further, but haven't had a chance yet.

This is odd. I use the SandDisk 16GB Cruzer and my system works great with it. Maybe it could be a defective Cruzer, who knows.

My car has the same problem, except my car has no "Hint", it's blatant. I used the Microsoft program to encode my USB. The dealership couldn't explain the problem. It so concerned me that I went out and bought an IPOD, instead.

Music played through my Ipod sounds BETTER than music played directly on the CD, and I can't explain why, unless the Ipod/Itunes does some sort of processing. I bought an old style IPOD CLASSIC with 160 GB of memory, so I was able to record the music at full CD quality without fear of using up space.

I am waiting to hear if someone can figure out the pause/skip at the beginning of songs on the USB, because I only bought the IPOD after using my kids' and noting that I like playing the Ipod using the Ipod itself to control, and not the IPOD CONNECTER that came with my car (negotiated at purchase). But I was annoyed to have to buy the Ipod, when I have so much USB space lying around.

So I solved the problem with a 32GB SSD HDD that has a USB connector (Zalman S Series) -- since it costs less, after rebate, than a 32GB USB flash stick. No more skipping, regardless of MP3 file encoding, etc. And when connected to the PC via SATA, it's so fast to transfer the files. I love my current setup - if only the Genesis DIS can browse songs by tag instead of file name.

The iPod sounding better could be due to the DAC (digital to audio converter) in the head-unit vs the iPod - but equalizer could also play a part in this. I don't have an iPod to confirm this theory.

P.S. For those connecting SSD, make sure to partition SSD in Windows Vista or 7 using DISKPART with these commands. The key "align=1024" aligns the disk properly and causes a VERY significant speed increase - fully optimizes the drive for flash memory.
Diskpart > list disk (find your SSD drive)
Diskpart > Select Disk X (replace X with drive #)
Diskpart > Clean (this wipes out everything!)
Diskpart > Create Partition Primary Align=1024
Diskpart > Format Quick FS=FAT32
Diskpart > List Partition
Diskpart > Exit

Then use Disk Manager to assign the SSD drive a drive letter.
