  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Use of both smart keys to keep them active.

Hi, my dealer told me that I should use the two smart keys supplied at least once within 12 months. So instead of using the same key for years, I should use the spare key at least once, say at 11 months. If I don't do this, the spare key will become inactive after 12 months. I have not seen anything like this mentioned on this forum, or any details in the owners manual.
Can anyone clarify please?

I haven't heard anything about that either in the time I have been on this forum, but maybe the 2015+ is different than the older ones. I am pretty sure that does not apply the first generation Genesis.

I would think that if that were true there would be a warning in the manual somewhere. I've not seen anything like that in the manual or mentioned here by anyone.

I will let you know tonight. I haven't used/touched my spare Smart Key since I bought my car in September of 2014. I will check tonight and report back if it works or not.

No issues with my spare Smart Key which has never been used since I purchased my car since September 23rd, 2014. I did decide to switch them out now and use it for the next year and swap it out again then.
