Used Genesis Buying Advice for a FNG

Well, I did find a 2018 5.0 Ultimate G80 for sale, however it is a branded title due to being a buyback vehicle. Just because of that, I'd want to stay far away from that one, just because I won't know why they bought it back and if there really was an issue on the car. Only has 18k miles on it and can get it for 29k. Condition wise, it looks damn near showroom condition. Would you just wait for a regular titled one or take a risk on this?

An owner on the G70 site did work on his own car using only Genesis parts but the dealer discovered his actions and reported it to H/G US and they "branded" his car meaning warranty work, of any kind, would be very unlikely to be approved.
Branding can be for other reasons, such as buyback. If warranty is intact and provided in writing from H/G US and the reason for buyback is transparent and verifiable, maybe.
I would not take the risk.

Yea, I wouldn't be able to know for sure the reason. I also just noticed that the car has been through 2 owners so far, which makes it a no go unless it was maybe half that price. And since it's more than 1 owner prior, there would definitely be no warranty at all.

I would stay far away from that one. It may be enticing but never the less Buy backs just don't happen because a person don't like the car. Be patient my friend you will find what you want.

Why don't you see why it was a buy back. I missed a buyback that was because of issues with the satellite radio. They replaced the radio and fixed the problem and the person still didn't want it. When I finally called to find out why it was a buyback it was gone. I was mad at myself for missing out. But still had the rest of factory warranty.

This would be from a dealer auction. If it only had 1 prior owner I may not be that concerned, but seeing that it has had 2 prior owners that makes me pump the brakes hard on that. Plus, being a branded/salvage title, it will destroy it's value should I find out that the car is complete garbage and has major issues.

I was looking at a 2015 G80 Ultimate last year at an unbelievable price and relatively low miles.
I didn't understand why it so cheap, until I applied for financing.
My lender wouldn't approve it because of the branded title, with 1 previous owner.
Turns out there was major transmission warranty work done on it.
Even though the work was done by Hyundai, it was still a no-go for the lenders I was dealing with.

What does that mean? I had my 08 GMC Acadia trans rebuilt under warranty due to a broken clutch plate. It never got a branded title.

Does that mean trans work due to a accident?

That's just what the dealer told me. Of course they tried to tell me that i was perfectly fine because it was fixed by the manufacturer.
I believe he said that the original owner took it back multiple times for the same issue and they eventually did a buyback.
I think the branding comes if the dealer or manufacturer has to buy the vehicle back for some mechanical issue they couldn't fix to the satisfaction of the owner.....but I'm not sure.
It was the first and only time I've heard of that until now.

That is correct. This can be due to the owner looking for any way to get out of that vehicle and not lose their shirt from the depreciation, especially if they feel that the repair didn't satisfy them enough and still believed that something was wrong with it. Sometimes dealers will do the buyback to please the customer and to hopefully gain them back into another new vehicle and keep their business. Or, they just want to shut them up and get rid of them instead of pestering the service department frequently for mystery issues that never come up when the mechanics check it over. If I were to purchase a vehicle this type of way, I'd feel much more comfortable to go directly to the dealer that did the buyback and have them explain to me exactly what the issue was and to hopefully keep the manufacturer warranty. If it was something minor like a ticking noise they swear they hear in the car, but nobody else can hear it and I cannot either.
