  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am in the market for a new used car and have my heart set on a 2009 hyundai genesis 4.6. I am getting a late 2009 build date model with technology package for $23000 from a private seller. The car has less than 26000 miles on it. I am in the NJ-NY area and was wondering if this was a good deal. I see cpo vehicles priced around 25-27k in the area. It would be great if anyone had any inputs/thoughts.

$23000 seems a bit high IMHO for 09 4.6 with tech. You can get a 2010 at dealers for that all day long on Auto Trader and that is if you don't put up any fight on the price. The low mileage is nice and worth something but its not worth that much. I know you have a 09 in your sights but for that money your looking to spend you could get a late year 2010 4.6 with a bit better suspension and a few more gadgets (adaptive cruise control) most notably a few more ponies 385HP vs 375HP never a bad thing. :)

That's my two rupee worth. Come first of the year I too will be looking in earnest for a 2010 Genny of my own. I at first was looking to get a 09 but due to the info provided by those on this site; I am now looking at 2010's ! :D

I just picked up an 09 3.8 with tech and 16k miles for $25k at Carmax so that seems to be a good price. None of the low mileage Gen sedans were under $24k and even Autotrader doesn't list many 20k~ mile cars for less than that...

Thanks for the feedback guys. @vermillion3 the car I am looking at is made in late 2009 so it should have some of the suspension problems addressed. I don't know where you are located but in the ny nj area there are only a few 4.6 that are on sale and they are in the 25 to 27 range. I don't know how much I can negotiate with the dealers but 2k looks like a stretch. Any opinions ?

Re: Used Genesis buying comment

Recently purchased a loaded (tech) 2009 4.6 as a certified used car from a Hyundai dealer. Full warranty to ten years from original purchase or 100,000. Car which had been originally delivered in May of 2010 now has 13,700 miles on it. $28,000.

CarFax report outlined regular maintenance at the original Hyundai dealer. Based on some residual destination and telephone information left in the Nav unit, car seems to have been driven by a little old lady in a town a few miles from mine. Not a cheap price, I know, but the car seems to be in pristine condition.

Bought my CPO 09 4.6 with Tech about 3-4 months ago, it had 23K miles. Paid 21.9K, no trade in either. I think that price is a bit high for a private party sale, but you are in a completely different market than me, I am in S.FL...a lot of the snow birds seem to buy Gennys to keep down here, then trade them in with pretty low miles.

Get a 4.6 10 with build date after March and get the 385hp.

Yes it is true that the local market is what makes all the difference. To the point even some times where it may be a better deal road trip to go get it. If it pans out to be the car you wanted when you get there and lay eyes and hands on it.

There was a post from some Canadians a while ago with OUTRAGEOUS prices for Gennys up there but that is what they are fetching in the great white north.

So I am a proud owner of a blue 2009 genesis 4.6 with 33k on it. Got it from a non hyundai dealer for $21900. Got it inspected at a hyundai dealership before buying. Love the ride and the lexicon music system is awesome. Already got complemented on the car by a stranger. Thanks everyone for the feedback :).

Hello All. I'm new to the site because I bought 10 days ago a CPO 2009 V6 with the premium plus package and only 22k miles for 19,995 in the NJ/NY area. It was built after June 2009 and titled the end of Oct 2009. I still have 2 years on the 60k warranty and up to 2019 for the 100k powertrain! Very happy with my purchase. Love the car too! Many of my coworkers are surprised how nice and luxurious the car is.
