  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No thanks.

I thought the huge chrome wheel trend was dying out, or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

I've heard references on Top Gear and other programs about how americans are still putting chrome wheels on cars which they thought died out 2 decades ago.:D

No doubt, wheels are a matter of personal preference. Fighting words to suggest otherwise.

Personally, not my taste, but more than anything, I shudder to think of the cleaning time involved. More spokes = more time :)

You guys make me feel weird saying I actually like the wheels.. I do.. I wouldn't put them on my own car because I'm not into them for myself - but I think they look good...

Obviously wheel choice is a pretty personal thing. That said, for me, a lot of the appeal of the Genny is the somewhat low key elegance that it puts out. A very good looking car, but not a lot there that, all by itself, jumps out and demands attention (IMHO). The other thing, though, is that the car is very masculine, and I think that the wheels should carry this through.

So, given that, my feeling is that any cosmetic changes should be in keeping with the rest of the car. So, for my tastes, something painted, not chromed, and probably something in the 5 to 7 spoke (or split spoke) that does not call a lot of attention to itself. I've spent a little lime looking (at TireRack) to see if anything caught my eye. Only the OZ Opera EVO did much for me, from what I could tell there. I'd need to see it in person/on a Genny to know for sure though, and even then, I suspect that some of the finishing touches (the branding) would be a turnoff.

As a final thought - I think that 18" to 19" is probably the right size for this car. All of the 20's that I've seen overbalance the car, visually speaking.

To each his or her own, though. If we all liked exactly the same thing, this would be a boring world indeed.

It's not my style, but I still like chrome, trendy or not. I'm content with the wheels on the Genny though.

It's subjective... I think the new "gunmetal" and black wheel trend is nothing short of terrible (especially on non-black cars!) Others obviously love it... same with the ricer exhausts on Civics, "stacks" on pickup trucks and the dozens of other things people do to their vehicles that I personally find ridiculous.

To each his own... it's yours, enjoy it.

I think they look ok. No criticism on the looks. I live in an area where they often pave over boulders rather than remove them...and don't get me started on potholes. It is hard to tell from the photos, but, they look like a high maintenance wheel from a cleaning perspective. For my area, I would have to buy a couple extras to have on hand as I send them out for repair. Big wheels and low profile tires do not tend to stay round here.

I may be crazy but I would love to see the factory wheels chromed, not sure if it would be too much chrome or not.

I saw a 4.6 w/ chrome OEM wheels on Sunday and it looked great. Not too much at all. It looked very elegant IMO. :)

Nice looking... not over the top. I do like the deep dish, but I prefer the understated elegance of the wheels that came with my V6 Tech. I like the way the whole car looks not just the wheels. With overstated wheels thats all you see.. IMHO :D

Would love to hear a discussion on the effect the 20inchers had on the ride.

Everyone has an opinion. At least some are kind enough to state theirs in a mature manner.

Thanks for the input.

You did good Allen, so far, from the cars you've posted. Most importantly, I have not seen signs of you going "Fiddy Cent" or "Puffy" on the Genesis and that is crucial ! That is what will keep the rep below the Germans, imo. You get it, don't you?
Just please stay away from making the cars look "Waddup Dog?" or "Aight". That would probably be like 21" and above with super low profile tires, and improper wheel gaps.

If thats your thing, whatever...kinda thought/hoped that trend was dead as all the 16 year olds from 2004 were maturing. Really have been wishing that the Genesis wouldn't turn in to the "blang-blang" car just as I was starting to see less DUBs around.

The Genesis is such a smooth riding car, why on earth would you want to ruin that?! Doesn't it feel like all that extra wheel is slugging down your 3.8?

In my case, I didn't go all the way to 20", but I settled on a 10-spoke, 19" TSW chrome-finished Estoril. Gives the car a little more "character" without making it look pimpy... BTW, I didn't notice any change to the ride when I upgraded from the stock 18" rims with stock Dunlops to the 19" with P235/40R19 Falkens.

Your thoughts...
