  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Check engine light code was P2191, and suggested solution a PCV valve. Ordered it but cannot find a diagram showing its location. I think it is somewhere easy to get to on the top of the engine, with a hose running to it. Anyone have a meaningful diagram that would help. And how does the top engine cover come off? Just snaps on and off?

engine cover snap off pretty easy

Repleced the PCV - easy, on left bank when standing in front and hose running to it easy to spot. PCV valve was made of plastic. Had to use a sparkplug wrench to fit it as it is larger than a 19mm. Be careful and don't screw it in too tight as it is easy to strip the plastic threads. Had the code cleared and so far so good. Runs correctly and no new code (yet!). Total cot: $15. Going to call Hyundai and see what they would charge.

I replaced my preventatively at 75K. Out of curiosity, how many miles on your car?

My 1980 classic Vespa scooter has 45,000 miles on it. Where I live in Venice California - Los Angeles - is much faster, cheaper and easier to park. So that's my transportation unless something special comes up that's a long ways away.

I intend to give a call just out of curiosity but haven't followed through yet. If I do I'll post it. I figure it would be a couple hundred bucks at least if not 300. Of course they would have to do a diagnosis first and you'd be charged for that as well.

300 bucks for a 10 min job? wth

The part (26740-3F300) costs $21.40.

Labor will be an hour...or at least half-an-hour, minimum. It really is a 10-minute job from start to finish.

Doubt there are many repair jobs at (Hyundai) dealers for less these days.

Yesterday's DIY repair work on family cars:
* Local Toyota dealer wanted over $350 to replace a $75 coil on a 3MZ-FE (the big 3.3!), including $180 for the same $75 Denso part available at the mom & pop parts store <2 miles from my house. Took me 10 minutes including getting out the voltmeter to verify high resistance on the bad coil and good voltage on the harness.
* Replace a disintegrated brake light switch stopper pad on an '07 Santa Fe? Over $250 for a $4 part. Did that myself too <5 minutes.

Yeah, dealers and mechanics gotta eat too, but not on my dime.

Using these forums, your own scan tool, and not being afraid to learn and do DIY repair... priceless.

I'm guessing they'll charge 2 hours plus part. Good old stealership. They wanted $300 to install my rear rotors and pads I already bought😅
