  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've got a 2012, 4.6 V8. I've put approximately 15000 miles on it. The values started to make a tapping sound. I use M1 syn, 0w-30 oil.

I heard the engine "tap" on cold start up, while the car was running in the garage. I was wondering if any of you with the V8's have this tapping noise or have heard anything about it.

Thanks, Marty

Thanks Scott. I think the car was sitting for 2 days before we started it up. The oil may have drained out of the lifters. The next day when we started it up there was no tapping sound. After the engine get hot it is dead quite.

Make sure you use Hyundai OEM oil filters. Some have reported problems with after market filters. Hyundai has issued TSB s regarding not using OEM oil filters.

5w-50 is recommended for the 4.6.

5W-50? No way that is the "recommended" viscosity. There have problems reported with some of the 2012's and some use excessive amounts of oil. I suppose a higher viscosity might help, but I would not go beyond 5W-40. But if it is using oil, or making unusual noises, I would take it to the dealer and file a warranty claim. Most likely the dealer will blow you off, but just contact HMA and open a case with them. HMA has replaced a number of 2012 V8 engines due to design defects (since fixed in more recent versions of the engine).
