  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I thought the seats were cooled but they are listed as being ventilated. I know they did list these previously as cooled on the 2010 models. I checked the 2014 specs and sure enough they are also ventilated. When did the dump the cooling feature?

EDIT: Well I finally found reference to the cooling feature is available however I assume it is only on the ultimate package as it does specify available, otherwise they are simply ventilated. Not sure if this is actually accurate as I have found so many errors in their listings it's almost like they hired some high school students to do this. This is on the Canadian site. http://www.hyundaicanada.com/Pages/showroom/Interior.aspx?model=Genesis

I'm no expert on this subject, but I have always heard that none of the seats are actually cooled, but rather ventilated. (This was the case on my BMW as well that they were ventilated).

Cooled seats are definitely out there however BMW has some logic that claims the cold causes cramps so they do not use them in their vehicles. The ones which are cooled use a small thermo electric cooler or Peltier if you prefer. This is the same type of small unit found on those portable plug in 12v fridges you can buy everywhere. See here. http://ask.cars.com/2011/02/how-do-cooled-seats-work-.html

But are they not ventilated with whatever temp and source of airflow selected in climate control? If AC is on, then the ventilation should be conditioned air.

Yes that is a ventilated seat description which just takes ambient air from the cabin and blows it through the seat, no ducting is connected. Cooled seats have a little peltier cooler in each seat to further cool the ambient air and feels actually great on a hot day. It seems like they took out this feature which was available on some of the gen 1.

Explains all those leg cramps I had! :-)

OK. Not cooled seats but cooled air is being ventilated through the seats. Fair enough I suppose.

the brochure states ventilated front seats, not cooled as previous models. Seats would mean both, not just the driver seat like the older models. I don't remember seeing a dual control for the passenger seat in either the V8 or the V6 Tech I test drove.

I love the ventilated seats in the 2015 Genesis!

And since it's my wife's car I spend most of the time in the Passenger seat so I know for a fact that 2015 V6 Tech has ventilation on both sides.

Actually I think the seat ventilation in the 2015 Genesis works better than the ventilation in my Audi A8L... The Genesis seat feels noticeably cooler.

When i drove it i couldnt even notice. The car was warm inside in the late afternoon. Its going to be a lot less useful than the lincoln mks which blows AC thru the seats. Probably only useful if the cabin is cool already and ur still sticky down there

...except that the Lincoln MKS seats are horribly uncomfortable to begin with. Big car, narrow seats. Go figure!

My 2009 Tech has the cooled driver's seat. Worked great when I test drove the car, but worked less and less as time went by. Seems the seat padding moves and cuts off the air flow. There is a fix not supported by Hyundai to take the seat apart and put in some pieces of PVC pipe that is supposed to get around the air flow problem.

After 5 years, I can barely feel any cold in my seat if I am sitting in it. If I get out of the car for a minute or two with the car running (get the mail, etc.), the seat initially feels much colder when I first reenter the car. Apparently the air flow is better when the seat is unoccupied.

I think the ventilated seat in my new 2015 will be much better based on my test drive. There is a lot more airflow with the ventilation on high setting. My wife will appreciate the ventilation in the passenger seat that she did not have in the 2009.

ventilated seats are part of signature package
however i cant feel any cold air coming from the seats, i even tried to put the ac on very disappointing.

Used them this weekend and I can't say i noticed too much ventilation myself but my wife felt it immediately in the passenger seats.

I notice the cool air being pushed thru the seats. One of my favorite features. :)

Like Pahaska said, the 2009 was great in this regard providing air-conditiond air through the drivers seat. For me it was a welcome feature. As time went on the ventilation became almost non-existent on the seat cushion although the backrest still got cool. After replacing the seat bottom due to wrinkling of the leather, ventilation was restored. The 2012 had only ventilated not air-conditioned airflow through the drivers seat and the same is true on the 2015 for both front seats. On a hot day with the A/C on it is OK as I think the seat fans pick up the cool air from the floor level, but certainly not nearly as effective as the 2009 system. I'm not even sure the backrest is ventilated anymore. Too bad they changed it.
