  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Version 9 of GPS software/update coming out June 1st!

A quick stab at the math tells me that the mapped roads have increased by a total of :confused:0.32% and the total number of POIs has decreased by over 118K. And all of this for ONLY $140??? I think not.

I believe that is v8 - v8.5, not v8.5 - v9.

Was we ever able to make a clone of V8.5 SD card and use it??

Hmmm. The update site says that after you've updated to Version 8.5 the new map version will be 07.47.65.001.001

According to the system info on my January 2015 built V6 Ultimate, my current map version is 07.47.65.001.002

I'm wondering what the map version is for those of you that have older build-date 2015s and have updated to newer versions? It would be interesting to see a list of the Update Number and which Map Version correlates to which update.

Thanks

It is hard to believe that the automakers are still using this archaic technology. Why don't they use the Google or Apple system? Using the system of hard updates, versus just making web based, if even web updates, seems crazy. Why pay over $200 to update the car GPS when your phone is right next to you and its always updated?

Well yes, but, you may not always have mobile connectivity. And there's also the issue of broadband consumption. I was lucky to remain Grandfathered on Verizon's Unlimited Plan, but for many plan usage is a real concern. Though to play my own Devil's Advocate, even those points may soon be moot as we're already at the point where the entire map of the United States can fit on your phone and still have tons of space left over for one's music collection. Just make sure it stays charged!

And then there are some of us troglodytes that don't have Smart Phones. :D

I agree with you, except... I use Waze on a Nexus 5, and it's great, at least until my drive takes me out of the reach of cell towers, or at least ones that allow data roaming. Then, nothing beats a hard-drive based GPS mapping system. It still keeps working, no matter what! If I'm going for a drive in rural areas, I'll set the destination on both my phone and my Nav system.

Zombie apocalypse. When they eat the cell towers, I still have GPS mapping to navigate to the nearest safe zone. Or on US 14 outside of Hayes South Dakota where no data on cell is available while not stationary. :)

I gave MapnSoft a call this morning to find out what map version is on my Genesis. They confirmed that Map Version NAM.07.47.65.001.002 is Version 8.5.

I forgot to ask when Version 8.5 was released, but I'm thinking from what I've read elsewhere that it was about 6 months ago. If so, I'm not ready to jump to Version 9.0 right away unless I can get the dealer to include it as I have had the car less than a week.

Thanks

I don't think they've released any preliminary information about V9 yet.
Usually updates contain the following:
  • Map updates to new/changed roads
  • New or deleted points of interest (business names, etc)
In some cases, there might be changes to the mapping software, usually to fix bugs.

I understand the issue you all sighted with not having cellular available. However, it seems simple enough that the map could be stored in the system and updated once per month or something simple like that. Link it with Google and just have auto updates. The system of hard coding is crazy. Even if it were a paid service it seems to make sense.

I just bought my 2015 Genesis V6 a few days ago. Does anybody know if Hyundai has a policy about updating the map for free for a certain amount of time after a purchase?

I doubt there is any 'official' policy for updating map software within so many days of purchase, but you should definitely talk to your dealer and ask them for a free update. I took delivery of my 2015 in September 2014 and the installed mapping software was older than the (updated) software in my 2012. I complained to the dealer and they agreed to update the mapping software when the next major release was available.
