  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

I have one more issue that I really need help with.

I have a 2015 Genesis Ultimate V8 sedan and over the last 4 or 5 months, I have been feeling a vibration as I drive past 80 kmh (50 mph) and is at its worst when I am going between 110 - 130 kmh (60 - 80 mph). It gets to the point that the hood visibly vibrates at higher speeds (the center area near to the windshield), and you can see the the passenger seat and steering wheel slightly vibrate and I can feel the vibration in my legs, my back and can be felt by all the passengers throughout the cabin.

I have balanced the wheels three times over the last month at two different locations and the vibration is still there (I installed new Continental ExtremeContact tires this past spring, if that is useful information).

Any advice because this is very annoying, especially at highway speeds.

Thanks.

Michael

I'd get a competent mechanic to drive it for another opinion. Could be in the drive train but it is possible to have a balanced but otherwise defective tire. When balanced were they put back in the same location? If changed, did the vibration change? If the tires have cupping, de-lamination or defective belt they can cause vibration.

Hi EdP,

The wheels, as they are staggered, were put back in the same position. If this helps, it also feels like the vibration gets slightly more noticeable during sweeping, slight highway right turns at speed then reduces when the the turn ends.

If it is a tire issue, how would I notice which tire has cupping, de-lamination or a defective belt? What do I look for on the tire?

Thanks

Cupping should be easy enough. It may be visible or at least you can feel it. Run your hand around the tread, usually on the edge and it should feel round. Other problems are harder to spot.
My 2015 had vibration in excess of 75 mph. They were balanced and inspected but finally cured when they were replaced at 35,000 miles. In my case it was tolerable since it was only at higher speeds.
