Vibration at 30 mph

My 2016 Genesis has a vibration at around 30 mph. The dealer replaced the driveshaft which only made it worse.

The car has brand new tires, freshly balanced.

any suggestions?

If replacing the driveshaft made it worse....then wouldn't it be driveshaft related or something that ties into the driveshaft removal/reinstatement? Lol

Same issue with my 2015 Sedan. It is now back in the shop after the second driveshaft replacement did not fix the vibration.

I posted about this a couple of months ago. My 2016 Genesis (with ALL options - I love it!) still has the vibration. It occurs between 30 and 37mph. Back in the old days - and I am quite old - we would have chalked it up to a driveshaft but more specifically to a universal joint. I have not approached the dealer's excellent service dept. yet. (I bought it somewhere else.) I sure have been hoping someone here would come up with a solution. How many U-joints are there in this all wheel drive machine?? (If I were younger I would probably be under the car working on the problem. Sorry. I'm 87. I had to give that up a while back.)
The frequency of the vibration screams U-joint. I can't, in fact, imagine what else it could be.

It does sound like the vibration or "flutter" issue others are having. And I agree, I don't think it's flat spots on the tires.

I have a '19 base G80 3.8, I'm not having the problem but I'm following the situation as if I do - my car is similar to those that do have the issue.

This may be wrong, bit I think it's been reported more by cars with the 3.8 engine, and year models '15-'17, and '20.

Certainly sounds like it. Do you have RWD or AWD?

I have the 2015 awd 3.8, have the vibration around 35-40, also idle vibration, have new balanced tires and the drive shaft balance kit preformed, still in there and a weird " almost like differential lock" but only turning left and o ly 3 or 4 jumps? Any thoughts, dealer said it the steering gear box, $ 6400 to repair, wow!!

I have a 2015 Genesis, 3.8L, RWD.

Had the propeller shaft replaced as part of TSB 20-DS-002H then this vibration problem turned up.

Noticeable when the vehicle is deaccelerating 41 ~ 18mph. More noticeable when the vehicle is cold, i.e. first start of the day and in the initial 15 minutes of driving. Seems to get less noticeable as the vehicle warms up.

Almost feels like a rim out of balance, but goes away at higher or lower speeds. But most certainly it's from the vehicle as the resonance is the same every time regardless of road conditions.

The electric steering rack is expensive for your car, but it can be purchased for about $3600 online. The job itself seem to be plug and play since it does not have hydraulic fluid. However, you will need a GDS scan tool to proper setup the power-steering ECU. A GDS scan tool is must have for DIY owners out of warranty.

The hardest part of the work would be removing the chassis components(steering column, tie rods and body cover) in the way to get to it. You probably can get the job done cheaper by doing it yourself if you had a GDS scanner or having an independent import mechanic perform the repair.



This is repair information for an AWD 5.0, but it is probably the procedure for your AWD 3.8.

Update in the steering rack, took to another dealer and turns out it is the rear diff, which is what I tried to tell the first dealer, so covered under drivetrain warranty, if I had repaired they would have been out a few$$$$

What does the steering have to do with the original subject of this string? We are after a vibration, like a U-joint vibration, on G80 and 2015-16 similar models. Happens around 30-35mph and goes away when the car is warmed up - and even happens only some of the time. It may be unique to AWD models which my loaded 2016 is. Has anyone found a solution?

I have the 3.8 AWD, 2016 with 61K miles. Driving me CRAZY! I want to talk with Hyundai directly about this, as my service department thinks that I am being too picky. Hey, this car should not feel like a 1988 Chevy S-10 pickup, amiright?

2016 Genesis Sedan, 3.8 AWD, all options (!) 37,600 miles. Bought it when it had 24,000 miles on it, about three years ago. (I'm elderly now. Don't drive a lot.) I've had the vibration in the 30-34mph range but it comes and goes. Almost negligible all last winter, now vibrates for the first two miles of driving, disappears after that - and this has been in 80+ degree weather. Yeah. Makes no sense. Other reports, like yours, speak of the vibration when the car is cold. I've had that too but not last winter. Go figure!
Just to be sure, since I bought the car used I have not taken it to my local dealer with this complaint. I'm just waiting for people here to solve it.
I've been on this site for at least two years trying to find out if there is a cure. So far no joy.
In an otherwise terrific car (I LOVE the car!), it IS a big disappointment. Stay with us and Good Luck!
