In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. So today my dealer installed a second set of new Michelin Tires on my car, as authorized by the Hyundai Canada Service rep. The highway speed vibration was still there. They didn't even try to give me the car back. They are now going to try a different set of wheels and Michelin tires from another Genesis on the lot.

For a loaner they gave me a 2015 Genesis HTRAC 3.8 that had the Michelin tires fitted. They too suffered from flat-spotting that disappeared after they warmed up and a noticeable highway speed vibration, although not as bad as on my car.

i can't help but wonder if there is something odd about the suspension on your car. have the service folks looked over your suspension with a fine tooth comb? are all the bolts tight and the bushing in good shape. have they checked the sub-frame attachment points both to the car body and the suspension??

on my car i've on occasion noticed that on certain road surfaces there seems to be some high frequency vibration that wasn't noticeable on my regal. however it usually doesn't last long, and therefore i haven't given it too much thought. wondering aloud if hyundai needs to do more suspension/bushing/shock tuning on the genesis? :-(

According to my family, the only thing with a screw loose is the person behind the wheel :D.
I had asked the dealer to check the suspension when they first told me they couldn't fix the vibration by wheel balancing. Also had them check for bent/distorted wheels, which they claim are OK. Let's not forget, this highway speed vibration did not exist at all with the original Hankooks or with my Winter wheels & tires, so I doubt it is chassis or suspension related.

I picked up my car today, having been told it was now fine after they fitted Michelin set #4 . I drove home on the highway and although less severe, the vibration is still there, but seems to have moved up in speed slightly. I will drive it for a few days to see if I can live with it or not. Very frustrating.

Hi, Canukv6, FWIW, the distortion discovered in my wheels can't be seen by a simple, visual inspection. The damage isn't in the bead area like a pothole dimple. In fact, AFAIK, there's not any radial damage to the wheels at all - it's all lateral deformation that was observed while the wheel was mounted on the balancing machine and it could be seen or felt that the wheel was moving side to side.

What I'm trying to point out is that even a sincere visual inspection done by your dealer may not have discovered any distortion.

Good luck - all of us who are experiencing this vibration issue are gonna need a little of it (luck). :)

Response to the poll has grown to 56 respondents with 25% having an unresolved vibration issue.

So I went back to look at the car I test drove a month or so ago that I had noticed the highway vibration on, and all of the cars on the lot have the original Hankook tires. Not sure why they didn't replace them, especially if that is going to be where a prospective buyer's main impression comes from.

Have you just driven the one car, or have you tried others as well?

The rough suspension is only for the first drive after the car has been sitting over night. To me is not that big of a deal. I would buy this car again with no hesitation.

I purposely looked for a Hankook equipped car. When i bought it, I made sure they did not them off at delivery. For one, all my previous test drives were fine with those tires and second, hard to resist a bonus of a free set of tires when I wear out the Hankook's.

just that one. i'm not looking to buy until November, so i'll try a 2016 for sure. I was planning to do another test drive anyways after that experience, but I'd like to find one with the Michellins.

Your situation is similar to mine, although the lease on my current car is not up until March of next year. I'm hoping to see an end to this vibration problem by the time the next MY is released too.

the only vibration i've noticed on my htrac v6 is the flat spotting caused by the hankooks when they sit for a while.

Its not only Hankooks, I've had 2 sets of Hankooks, I set of Continentals, and now Michelins and still have"flat spots" so i don't believe it is tires

"J," those that claim flat spotting generally feel the vibration go away after a few minutes of driving. Does your vibration go away in this way, or is it with you all the time?

Wow, after a slow start we are up to 65 respondents and 26.16% having unresolved vibration issues. Thanks again to all the participants.

The 'Flatspotting' issue after the car sits for a while definitely IS the tires. It is common to many brands of Low Profile tires and especially performance rated tires that have a softer compound. I have had this issue (I really don't see it as a problem as it goes away after a short while) since day one and it was the same with the original Hankooks and now with (all three sets) the Michelins.

I like many others also have a highway speed vibration, not related to flatspotting, that wasn't there with the Hankooks and does not appear to be anything to do with Wheel Balancing. The problem only showed up after the dealer changed out my Hankooks for Michelins and despite multiple wheel balances and now three different sets of tires, the problem still exists. It was also present on a loaner car I was given, fitted with Michelins, while my car was being diagnosed.

It would be easy to say that this highway vibration must also be due to the tires, but it could also be something else. Possibly a drivetrain resonance that is amplified by the Michelin tires due to their construction, or maybe the rims are weak laterally and the removal and refitting of tires is enough to distort them, causing a vibration. At present we don't really know, but I am upset that changing the excellent Hankooks with Michelins, supposedly to cure the flatspotting, has not done that and has added this far more serious highway vibration. I am also concerned that while the Hankooks were 'Ultra High Performance All Season' tires the Michelins are just 'Grand Touring All Season' rated. Not exactly a direct replacement in my opinion.

we can discuss this point forever while Hyundai rests on their reputatio i've spoken to a couple of friends with Mercedes' and Audis who don't have "flat spots" it seems only the Hyundai Genesis, and yes I do have a vibration after the flat spots warm up

I've owned four vehicles in the last ten years that have all had low profile performance tires. Two of the cars also ran on run flats. Not one of them has had a flat spotting issue. I find this whole thing quite concerning.

my 2012 regal turbo had michelin pilot hx mxm4 tires...and when it was cold outside they'd flatspot...fwiw. :-(

If it is the wheels, shouldn't replacing the rims fix it? I'm sure many people on this board have done that for aesthetic reasons. I wonder their experiences post-change...

EXCELLENT idea! Any responses from anyone who's replaced their wheels? Any flat-spotting or other vibrations post-change?
