If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,
First post here. Bought mein bride a new 2024 GV70 off the lot. 2.5T Advance.

Since taking it home, with very light throttle position (not idle, not moderate throttle settings) RPM 1500-2000 there is a very obvious and loud vibration sound.
It is coming from under the left rear seat area. It is similar to the sound a cellphone makes on a glass table on vibrate.

I reported this to the service department at the dealership that sold us the vehicle. Here are the results to date:
GV70 1.webp
1) Returned with ZERO repair attempted: claimed "cannot duplicate"
This was after they had possession of the vehicle for 2 weeks GRRRRRR
(They also drove 200 miles on it because they rammed into it and sent it 50 miles each way to be repainted TWICE)

When I took possession of the car back, I detected the sound immediately before I left the parking lot. I insisted they come out and ride along to listen to sound.

2) Took it back. Another 2 weeks go by. They claimed it was repaired and delivered it to our house 40 mins away. Shame on me, I trusted that they repaired it properly and let the agent leave with the courtesy car. That night I drove it and didn't back out of the driveway before it was clear that they AGAIN returned the car to me having DONE NOTHING AT ALL to correct this factory defect.

I texted the dealership that I am coming in tomorrow and leaving you the car to correct, and taking another courtesy car home with me.
Manager of service department and Service Shop foreman met me and rode along to confirm what I was reporting.

Shop manager admits there are other cars reporting this same issue. Admits he doesn't know what the fix is.

Again, promised it would be corrected.

3) Another week goes by and I am called to tell me its ready. The claim is a low pressure fuel pump line is vibrating by contacting the body under the left rear seat.
I drive back out to the dealership and they ask me for the courtesy car keys back. I tell them that I will be taking the car out to test to confirm that you have repaired this issue, as I have already been told twice that it has been repaired and, in fact was not.

This time, the source and the symptoms are identical with the only difference being it sounds slightly muffled as if they covered the source of the vibration with sound deadening material. When they told me the fuel line is vibrating with fuel pump activation, I figured they would isolate and wrap this point of contact and solve the problem at the source.

That clearly didn't occur.

I brought the car back to the dealership and refused the "repair." I was told I had to come back during the week as they don't have mechanics on staff on the weekend. Then I was told that the fuel lines and everything else where correct from a factory installation.

Expecting this nonsense, I said then I want you to give me the keys to an identical model and engine combo out on the lot so I can confirm that every GV70 vibrates loudly like this, knowing that was a pile of bullshit.

Denied. Said I have to have a tech come with you. Why would a tech need to ride with me when I confirm it does or doesn't make the same vibration as my car? Blank stare.

I left in the courtesy car and still have it to this day. I was told the same Manager would call me on Monday. The one who didn't call me ever the last 6 weeks as stated he would. Tomorrow is Friday.

I do not know what to do to get this addressed.
The dealership clearly is unable or unwilling to correct this factory defect.
I still have the courtesy car and the dealership seems utterly uninterested in getting it back or even contacting me.
It's a nice $90,000 GV80 3.5T Prestige Sport.

I guess I'll just keep putting miles on their car and paying for ours while it sits untouched at the dealership indefinitely.

?????????????Does anyone else know about a vibration with 1500-2000 RPM light throttle on a 2.5T GV70?

?????????????What do you suggest I do to resolve this?

I drive my cars until they go to the junkyard and it's our first new car in 17 years. There's no damned way I'm going to just listen to this for the next 15 years.

My wife has driven maybe 50 miles in the car I was very happy to have gotten for her and this has been so frustrating. There is another dealership further away in this city and another one where we plan to move not much further. I don't feel they should be forced to clean up this dealership's mess, but I would like to see if they have better staff as we will be working with them once we move in a couple years.

Ouch. Sorry to hear about this. I'm thinking you just got a lemon and the dealership should just let you get another one. I would seriously look into making that happen. Before they wrecked your car, did it make that noise? I believe they owe you a new one. One that hasn't been wrecked and repainted. Consult with a "lemon law" attorney in your state. You appear to have a solid case.

2 weeks later, get a call to pick it up. Took a test drive with shop foreman. They did indeed fix it!

Fuel line was NOT in spec as it was contacting and vibrating against fuel tank. No one at Genesis corporate knew anything about this. Foreman said there are other cars reporting this also now.

He also said that he has had so many problems with 2024 vehicles that were unchanged from 2023 and earlier. What is the deal? Manufacturing going to shit?

Glad it was fixed! My uneducated guess as far as the assembly at the factory, is that the assembly line might have been preparing for the all EV push. Only for a corporate about face when regality came crashing down. Chaos and confusion amongst factory workers can certainly affect the assembly line. I really want Genesis to succeed. I really like their products. Hoping for a 2 door offering that will not be an Aston Martin league competitor.

I actually have a light vibration/buzz at 1500rpm too, but mine sounds like it's coming from under the hood, or behind the firewall near the driver side (front). To me it sounds like a heat shield vibrating. it is worse when the engine is cold. If I have the radio on I can't hear the slight buzzing. Haven't had it to the dealer yet, but I'll mention it when it goes in for it's annual service.

Cars/trucks today are awfully complex. New model development cycles are getting shorter and shorter. Besides, by diverting R&D away from ICE and into EV, Genesis likely isn't placing as much emphasis on all things related to liquid-fuel system refinement. That's sad. The way the industry and consumer demand is currently, ICE is far from going away any time soon. Yet the decreased spending on ICE systems is going to result in more boogering up like this.

"refinement?"

This is a wholly unchanged model 2024 vehicle. I think it is the same (fuel system especially) for 3 years now.

The shop foreman stated his own surprise and disappointment "with all the 2024 vehicles that are unchanged and gave us very little problems from 2023 and older."

That was... ominous.

Yes, "refinement".

It isn't just the engine itself that could benefit from continued refinement, everything else that goes with that ICE platform, including the 8-sp transmission and the rest of the drivetrain. Just the differences between our older '19 Stinger and our new '23 Stinger are enough to impress me, even with what most would consider a mild refreshment cycle. The '23 shifts smoother, quicker and more intuitively (more like what I would do if I were to row my own gears). The differences may be subtle at times, but definitely noticeable... and they improve the driver's experience with the car overall.

The outward appearance might be very similar, but there will typically be bits and pieces of "refinement" dotting the entire car.

That is what iterative refinement does for a platform. My point was... the more committed a manufacturer is towards a line, the more they are willing to invest in such continuous improvement.

What the shop foreman thinks is none of my concern. Of course car dealers want flashy new styling, brand new tech/blingbling, and bigger HP/TQ numbers. All the more talking points to help convert tire kickers into sales contracts.

While I do share a bit of his disappointment, but calling the 2024 model "wholly unchanged" is a tad too harsh. Yeah, there are those buyers that chase after the latest, greatest and the mostest. For me, at the end of the day, what I look for - as a car buyer - are what my experiences will be for the next X numbers years. How much newer or flashier the car is relative to the outgoing one is not as relevant as how well the mfr has refined the product incrementally. The Germans have proven to be masters at selling refined iterations of the same product line, decades after decades. The 3-series, for example, has been iteratively refined since 1975.

If Genesis aspires to compete with the Germans, they need to understand and learn to do just that.

Did you ever get this resolved? I have the same issue.

Was this the sound you had?
