  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Fellarz!

First, I hope everyone had a great Memorial day weekend. Its a reminder of how many men, women, children have died in sacrifice for us to have the freedoms we enjoy today. It is a true testament to the character of this country.

Secondly, I'm thinking of adding a vinyl top to my car. I found this guy in SoCal, Don Nguyen, and he does really good work. What do you guys think?

Whew!
Man, I thought you were talking about adding something like this to our Genny;

That vinyl you're talking about looks really cool. I've been thinking about that myself.
Any idea how much it costs?

Thanks,

Dan

LOL! That was my first option, but couldn't find one that fit the top.

A friend of mine was just down there and got a $175 quote to do his 4Runner. I'm assuming the cost will be similar. I may be down south in 2 weeks so I will e-mail him and post back.

Wow, that's a good price.
Not sure if I can find a decent local installer to have it done though. :(
Let me know if you get more info.
Thanks,

Dan

Why don't you guys put a Continental kit on the back and fake bullet hole stickers in the window. Then you can change your names to Angel and Pancho-

:D Dude, I like the look.
With some window tinting, it looks decent, IMO.
Some vehicles with panoramic sunroof has that blacked out roof look.

Dan

Seems to me that a black roof will just make the car hotter. There is a reason why many yellow school buses have white roofs (at least in places where I have lived).

Why exactly do you want vinyl on the roof of your car?

Vinyl roofs went the way of spoke hubcaps.

There is a good reason vinyl roofs are no more. They had to be kept clean, and "lubricated". Also, they tore when they got old. Also, they would seperate from the roof.

In my area of Florida, some dealers add vinyl roofs to cars, thinking that the "old farts" will buy them. (Sometimes, they do).

The days of vinyl roofs is finished. Long gone. Forget it. Spend your money on more important things.

Go to any junk yard today and look at a car that had a vinyl roof. Ninety percent of the cars will have rust underneath the vinyl area-- I'm sure the vinyl is better today but why take a chance on being shot at--

In my opinion I think it would look good on any white coup or sedan. Possibly the red genesis as well. I don't think I would venture into something like this but I don't think it would look bad either.

I'd have to see it in person.

Probably the same reason why you have "wing badges" on your car.
Looks.

Dan
Not exactly. We have wing emblems because we ashamed to drive a Hyundai, and need something to fill up the holes in the trunk after we remove the "H".

;)

Though I did park next to an identical Genesis today, and although I'm biased, aesthetically I think the wings look better than the Hyundai emblem.

Whoa whoa whoa! Take it easy fellarz. Sharing is caring right? We share information, we discuss and that's that. :-)

Anyways, if you type Don Nguyen Vinyl on Google you will see that not only does this guy do amazing work, he also works on some VERY expensive cars. This isn't something Johny come lately will slap on their cars. He does some very creative stuff and even uses carbon fiber.

Now, before I bought Bianca (my cars name and this girl I had a crush on when I was kid in case you want to know :-) I wanted a C350. I did a lot of research and saw two of them with this on top on a white car and liked it a lot. It comes down to personal opinion but with anything else I wanted to hear some different perspectives. Either way, I will probably pull the trigger on it and will share pictures when I do. A mistake? Maybe, but for who?

Thanks felllarz!
