  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

For those that want walk-away auto-lock for the G90, have an iPhone and Amazon Alexa account; it is wonky, but works.

I have 2 iOS shortcuts setup to auto-unlock on Carplay Disconnect near my home and auto-lock on CarPlay Connect for my home door, and I added auto-lock for my Genesis to the Carplay Disconnect shortcut too.

Step 1. Set up a voice monkey skill on your Alexa app. This will allow you to make a virtual trigger with a web hook to kickoff an Alexa routine.

Step 2. Set up your Genesis skill on the Alexa app.

Step 3. Create a routine in Alexa that uses your voice monkey virtual trigger, it will show up in Alexa as a smart device, as a trigger, and set the action to be a typed Alexa command. “Tell Genesis to lock my doors” then add a 5 second wait command, and then add another typed Alexa command for your PIN# “pin is 1234”.

Step 4. Create an iOS shortcut, not a home automation, in your shortcut app. Assuming you use Apple CarPlay, set up a trigger in the shortcut that uses the disconnect from CarPlay event. When that event happens set up at web URL action and paste in the web hook address from the voice monkey virtual trigger. I repeat this action 5 times with a 10 second pause, just to be certain the lock command is issued successfully from Alexa.

If you don’t want it to autolock when you are in your garage, then add an "if otherwise" command, and do the autolock only when the "GET Location" doesn’t equal your street address.

I have some extra steps because of my home door and my parking spot can sometimes border on two addresses. And I bought a logger app that helps with troubleshooting, which you can ignore. But you will get the idea…just delete the steps not needed

Here is what it looks like:

Disregard post above. Mods you can delete this thread if you like.

Please read this Reddit post if you want to do a walk-away lock…much much easier using Scriptable and this guy’s shortcuts.

Walkaway lock and a one button shortcut to start your car with custom climate is much easier using this method, without involving Alexa and voice monkey.

All the instructions have Hyundai branding or Kia, but it works with Genesis too! Make sure to use the ICE, internal combustion engine, shortcut, as the other is for electric vehicles.

You can also build automations using his status shortcut too. Create a run while status says unlocked as an example.

apologies if this is obvious, but it looks like authorization is for Hyundai rather than Genesis. Does that need to be modified and, if so, how?

No…I spent hours thinking that too and messed around with code and changing the “brand” to Genesis.

No changes needed other than renaming the shortcuts for aesthetic reasons to Genesis.

It works right out of the gate using the Hyundai corp APIs. According to GitHub and the authors of Bluelinky, your credentials are only stored on iCloud, but they are sent to Hyundai Corp API to get the authorization/authentication tokens so the commands will be accepted.

And if you do use this and want your seats and steering wheel turned on, if you edit the “start” shortcut and go to the “Get Contents” step towards the bottom, and hit the blue arrow to expand that step, you get to see where all the magic happens and you can really customize how you want your Genesis to start. This was buried in the Reddit thread too

Yes you can do this in the Genesis app, but a one touch shortcut when you are already in your secured iPhone is much quicker and more convenient. This will allow as many shortcuts as you want; one for summer and another for winter. If you want to get fancy you could do an if statement and run the proper shortcut automatically depending on weather forecast.

Thanks for posting this! I now have a the lock shortcut mapped to the Action Button on my phone, so I can lock it with one press as I walk away. I have the climate start shortcut as a complication on my watch so I can start the climate prep with a tap on my watch a couple minutes before I head out the door.

You can use this walk away door lock from the ionicguy.com plug n play to your trailer hitch plug in the trunk by the battery.you will need the one for the ionic 5 which has the same plug as the gv70 and gv80

Sounds like you are going keyless/FOBless? Are you just using the iPhone as digital key? Any issues doing that if you are?

If you are not why not just use the CarPlay disconnect trigger for the auto-lock function or I guess others use Bluetooth disconnect for auto-lock.

I have been tinkering with CarPlay disconnect and haven’t gotten a trustworthy streak yet. These latest shortcuts seem solid so I expect to get good results this work week.

I still use my fob. I have a 23 G80 EV which, as far as I can tell, does not support the iPhone as a digital key. I may play with the CarPlay disconnect approach, but I pretty much always have my phone in hand.

Also, locking is important so I feel more certain not relying on a hardcoded timer to make sure everyone is out of the car with the doors shut.

I wish this worked for the G90, I have checked the wiring in the trunk and could not find an empty plug that looked similar. I think it was the one for trailer lighting. This did work great on my Kia Stinger back in 2020 or so.
