  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I ordered one of the wallet smart keys when I first got my 5.0. Recently I have been getting a low battery in key warning from the car. I changed the battery in the key fob but still get the message. I left the wallet key at home and the message stopped so now I need a new battery in the wallet key. I have been looking at it and am not sure how to replace this.

Has anyone done this?

well, I found that the top comes out with the battery but the battery doesn't want to come out of its placement. I may have to force it out (if that makes sense).

With the battery out and in it's holder, place the + side up. Use your left hand to hold the unit. Now use your right hand put your index finger under the battery, with your thumb, push down the plastic holding bracket on the top and the battery will now "flip" out. You will feel like an idiot once you figure it out, I know I did.

mine died too. guess that's side effect that it dosen't last long. How do you even get the batter compartment open? i was using a knife but didn't wanna damage the card...does it just take a bit of force?

There is a slot which will take a regular flat blade screw driver. Insert and twist. If you have strong fingers, you can actually forgo the screw driver.

The battery is pretty rare, nobody carried this locally and had to buy mine on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-CR2412-Lithium-Battery-DL2412/dp/B00A2YHBME

I also used a flat head (narrow) screwdriver and it was tight but finally opened. I found a battery at Batteries Plus. It cost about $5.00.

Thanks guys. Probaly a good idea to stock up? Seems mine only lasted a few months and I don't even use it all the time or did it possibly drain while waiting in the dealers safe?

Mine lasted about a year so yes, not all that long. Not a bad idea to order 2 batteries on eBay for cheap.

(Your dealer will have to program it for you, it will probably cost you at least $50 to do so, and you must take all of your key fobs to them to do so, and they won't be able to cut the key to match because they're too thin)

If you keep your FOB in your car while it's in the garage, then the battery will run out much faster; I do this and I've gone through two since March (the original and now the replacement is getting weaker as I have to be closer and closer to the car for it to work).

It comes standard on the 5.0 in Canada Only. Some have purchased these as they are quite cool. It replaces the fob with a credit card size one (about the thickness of 2 credit cards) I keep mie in a credit card slot of my wallet. No more fob to carry around.

Thanks for the information. :D

Considering that I have carry other keys with me, and the issues about battery life, I don't think I would use the wallet key even if I got one with the car. Using the key fob attached to my key chain guarantees I can't leave home without the other keys.

Got rid of the keys long time ago mostly because of the kids and their inability to not lose keys. All locks we have are remotely operated including the office. Only exception is the mailbox key which I keep in the armrest of all our cars.

That's pathetic battery life - totally negates the form factor coolness for me!

I've been doing research on the Genesis for over a year and have no idea how I haven't heard of this before. Totally bad ass. I will be picking one up once I purchase a 2016, which hopefully will be soon (inventory depending).

Finally got one for Xmas and got it programmed at the dealer for only $50. Sadly the wallet key must of been sitting in stock for a long time because once I got home I got the low battery warning.
