I didn't pop for the Lexicon upgrade but I think I can get a much fuller sound by adding a sub in the trunk. In my 07 Denali (traded it in for genny) I had a 10 inch powered bazooka and was pretty happy with it.

Has anybody added a sub to a Genesis? Any recommendations? Not looking for booming outside the car bass just some nice low end that cranks up the stock system a bit.

Thanks!

perfect, thank you

I just had a new Kicker L5 10" sub box and a JL Audio 500W amp installed and it made a world of difference. I got a relatively narrow box that fits nicely in the trunk and still leave the majority of trunk space.

I do have the Lexicon and at first I thought it was a good sounding system but began to feel that it just didn't have enough oomph and the low end was lacking. I also had a bass control knob installed under the dash that I can reach down and control the amount of bass volume or turn it off completely when needed.

Here's the box although this is an L3 box but the installer put in a new L5 sub in mine:

That is a perfect setup to add-on. I like it. I priced out an Alpine 12, box and amp on Amazon for about $350 shipped. Is your set up in this range as well? I'd rather go with something that's been done and you're happy with rather than creating a wheel.

BTW: Very nice lookin ride!

I'm having a minor "mod" put on right now (sitting at dealer) adding the hood wing emblem as I think it completes the front end.

Hey thanks!!

I paid $650 installed although I just wanted a subwoofer on a whim one day so I went to a local stereo installer and asked what I could get for my car and have installed right then and there. I should have priced things out and checked online for better deals and I probably could have saved some money.

I did a quick search online and found the Kicker Sub box (Kicker 08TS10L54) for as low as $199 ($329 MSRP) here: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_21348_Kicker_08TS10L54.aspx and the amp I have is a JL Audio JX500/1 and Amazon has it for $199. So you could potentially get the same setup for roughly $400 which is only $50 more than you were looking at plus install unless you do it yourself. I also got the bass control knob for the amp to control the levels remotely which I've seen anywhere from $20-$30+. I got the Version 1 of the JX500 amp and they have a V2 now which is smaller but more like $350 or so just for the amp. Like I said, I only did a quick search so spend a little time and you may find even better deals.

What you end up getting will all depend on just how much bass you are trying to create. This setup works great for me and is much more powerful than the stock sub that was in my car. I just wanted to have tighter, punchier bass that I could actually feel a bit and this achieved it for me. Plus, the narrow box which I think is typically designed for pickups with limited space, fits nicely in the trunk of the Genesis.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you end up doing.

Really apprecaite the background research. I went ahead and bought that kicker 10inch from the onlinecarstereo.... I did switch to a different amp based on it having really good feedback, it was only 50watts less RMS and was $40 cheaper (Alpine MRP-M500 - Amplifier - 1-channel) as I will have to fork over some $$ to have Best Buy put it in. I hope it fits snugly up in the back of the trunk so I can still put rolling cases and clubs in! Thanks again, can't wait to turn up some Zac Brown Band once its all in!

@jastylr
So I just had the Kicker box you bought and an Alpine 300 watt RMS amp installed on Sunday and drove around 80 miles visiting customers around ATL today. Whoa, what a difference! Whether its Phish, Zac Brown Band or top 40 that thing really hits. I didn't get the turnoff relay put in as I didn't want them touching the head unit. I think they just tapped into that sub in the rear deck. I freaking love it!:D

Hey @nathanr93, that's awesome! Glad to hear that it worked out for you and that it gives you the kind of kick you were looking for.

As for the bass level control knob, I don't think they make one for the Alpine model amp you have anyway but I'm not sure. It wouldn't actually connect to the head unit but connects to the amp itself. In any case, I have yet to turn mine down anyway so you may not be missing anything.

Enjoy it!!!

After looking at this forum earlier this year I installed a 12 inch subwoofer in my Genesis. I changed the original Rockford Fosgate P3D412 sub with a Rockford R500-1 amp 500 watt per channel setup to a Pioneer TS-W3002D4 sub with a Rockford R1000-1D amp 1000 watt setup. Although I don't pound real hard at almost 50 years old I do like deep bass when I feel the need. With the robust construction of the Genesis' trunk this setup sounds great. I also have a remote gain control to control the bass. To ensure solid electrical power to the system I have a 3 Farad capacitor and I added Memphis Tweeters to the original front panels to add more highs to compliment the bass. I had a local car stereo installer install my system with DB 4 gauge wiring. I also used a small 1 cubic foot Scoshe sub enclosure to save on trunk space. Overall I am happy with the sound and except the trunk, everything looks stock.
