  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone--new to the 2010 Genesis 4.6 and new to the forum.. purchased the car CPO, and it is clean..Have owned 2 months and just yesterday a warning chime could be heard along with a vehicle symbol on the dash with a small symbol in front of the front lights.. there is a "P" on top of the virtual vehicle. (couldnt find it in the manual) I assume this means a light is out, but no lights seem to be failing..one dealer service guy suggested on the phone it might be the backup warning system, but the chime activates at a stop when driving regardless if there are cars in front or behind.. the chime ceases when the vehicle is in motion.. anyone encounter this with their vehicle? if so, are there any DIY fixes? With my old Lexus RX, there were a number of alarm issues that could be resolved by pulling fuses.. Am obviously hoping I dont need to take a day and hang out at a dealer if there is a quick fix..thanks!!!

If you have front parking sensors, it is well known that those malfunction and give you a beeping or solid tone when stopped. I am experience the same issue, just not consistently.

Bottom line is, take her to the dealer

Going back to the dealer again for this. Mine is the chirp sound. The dealer will fix this properly or be responsible when I take a shotgun to the cricket behind my instrument panel.

It's most likely one of the four parking sensors - dealer should replace for no charge. I had the same issue.

Read and Study the manuals thoroughly and you will be better satisfied with your car and understand the systems and warnings. Its a must with newer cars like the Genesis as it was with my Mercedes.

In the mean time you can also turn off the parking sensors temporarily to reduce the annoying sound and also confirm that that's what it is. Switch marked "P" to the lower left of the steering column.

Actually, at least in the 2012 model, this doesn't work. Even with the sensors off, it will still emit a chime when you come to a stop to alert you of the malfunctioning sensor... Very, very annoying...

^ yes. I have had sensors replaced but to no avail - chirp, chirp. They have figured out most of the hard things with this car, but the easy (stupid) things seem to be more of a problem.:(

Did your Genny come with the Parakeet option?

I have the same problem, again. This is the second time it has happened. It is the control unit for the front parking sensors - at least that is what they replaced the last time it happened. Turning off the parking sensors does not stop the beeping when you come to a stop, but the sensors continue to work normally as far as distance warning is concerned if you leave them on.

Is it happening again after the control unit was replaced?

thanks, that worked; I dont need to make a dedicated trip to the dealer just for this issue, but will defer until I need scheduled maintenance...and they can address this at that point.

We're obviously talking about two issues - one where turning the parking sensor switch to off eliminates the problem - the other (in the case of at least my 2012 model) - it doesn't.

Here we go again. This sounds like the chumps who put up with poor reliability and weird hard to track problems in forums like VW, BMW, Audi, and others.

This car was promoted as quality of components one could depend on. With all the repeated/multiple owners with same problems showing up on this forum, combined with smaller ownership numbers in service, makes one wonder.

Yes, it seems so although everything was fine for about a year between incidents.

This is my second Genesis (first was a new 2009) and I have to say this 2012 has had a lot of mostly minor but annoying quality issues, compared to my first Genny.

They have only replaced sensors in my car, and the problem is still intermittent. I'll video it happening again. Thanks.
