  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have a 2012 Genesis w. tech package. Wife came home today and said the radio was locked up. Looking at it I find that the nag Warning message on the screen can't be cleared off by pressing the enter knob. The radio still works and I can change channels and mode with the steering wheel controls. But the console control knob and buttons do nothing.

Is there a way to reset the system, so to speak, to make it respond again? If not, I'll have to see the dealer.

Disconnecting the battery is one way to "reset" the head unit but as new as she is let the dealer worry about it; besides what happens if the reset fails? Let Hyundai fix it. :- ) Oh one other thing, take video of her "misbehaving" so you have proof of the problem. Especially if it miraculously heals and does not show its a$$ to the service folks. Video proof of the problem goes a long way to discounting the dreaded We looked at it and everything is working fine! :-)

Disconnect the negative battery cable for approx. two minutes. Its located in the trunk. Make sure when you re-attach the cable that its tight. This will do a hard reboot of the car's computer systems and should solve the screen freeze problem. Ask your wife what was being done at time of freeze. Was the usb being put in or removed at boot up, were buttons pushed while system was booting, was the start button hit multiple times? Not to place blame but to help find the source of the glitch.

I had my head unit replaced - the Freezing is known issue.........

I had this happen on my 2013 rspec.

I turned the car on and off at least 3 times and it did not remedy the problem.

After being off for a little over 20 min, it worked fine again, and hasnt done it again. That was 6 months ago

Same thing happened to me two days ago. I tried turning car off & restarting coupla times. Didn't work. Called dealer & was instructed to bring it by next morn. Car sat overnight (approx 12 hrs) and when I started it in morn all seemed fine?!?! Went to dealer anyway, they checked it and couldn't find anything wrong. Service mgr said it could have been caused by extreme cold (9 degrees)!! I asked if anyone else had same prob. He blinked his eyes and tilted his head.....

It was 7 degrees here two days ago and my 2011 with tech pkg. has had a frozen screen one time when it was about 102 degrees, the USB drive froze.

It seems to be a common issue. My 2012 Equus did this once, but after sitting 1/2 hour, it was fine. In my case, it would play CDs, but DVDs had no sound.

I called the hotline and got a case id #, for whatever that was worth.

Hasn't done it in 2 months....

wanted to add that when this happened to me, the warning screen was up the whole time, but I could change the xm stations using the dash display and the steering wheel buttons

temp was high 80's low 90s outside, car was in garage overnight

Looked at this again today, and I discovered that the AM/FM button next to the big knob on the console was stuck down. I got it to release by jabbing it with my finger 3 or 4 times. After that, voila, I could clear the warning screen with the big knob! I could not get the AM/FM button to want to stick again after getting it free. Huh?? Maybe it was frozen.....

Maybe some liquid was spilled on it at some time.

My 09 with the 4.6 had this happen once. It ended up being that the aux button on the left side of the knob was stuck down (it was something like 8 degrees outside). I flicked the button and it released. I tried to push the dealer to replace it anyway, but that battle was lost before it was over since I'd already fixed the issue by the time I made it to the shop.

It seems that the system can't handle multiple button presses, so when one is registered as being pressed down... Then again, you have a substantially newer vehicle.

...and reading the rest of the thread, I see that's what happened to you. Ignore me. I shouldn't be posting from work anyway :-P
