In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I am thinking of buying a 2015 Genesis 5.0 but am confused. I'm in CA and there seem to be a lot of these cars available thru dealers but they are selling them as NOT NEW. Can't lease them, must purchase. The price is 12K below the sticker. They all have low miles. Less than 2,000 and have never been registered. I can't find any 2016 5.0 Genesis models. Did they stop making them ? As to the warranty on the 2015, I get conflicting stories. One dealer says you get remainder of the 5/60 that started when they accepted delivery and NO 10/100 power train warranty. Another says I get the remainder of the 10/100 power train warranty and NO 5/60 wattanty. I don't want to buy a car that has no warranty. I drove the car and love it but I'm scared I might get shafted when it comes to service warranty work. Can anyone explain what's going on here??? Thanks

There were no Genesis 5.0 models for 2016 imported into USA.

No more lease deals from Hyundai Motor America on the 2015 (since 2017's are now available), but there are independent leasing companies if you really want a lease. The leasing company buys the car and leases it to you.

A lot of the 2015's remaining are demos, with some miles on them. I am not sure what the California rules are for the definition of a new car (this varies by state) and maybe a car over a certain mileage may not be sold as new even though never titled. You can do some research on California laws for this.

There should always be a 5/60K warranty on every car, that is transferable to all subsequent owners. Again, the start date may vary for California based on the state laws.

The 10/100K drivetrain warranty is only available to original owners, unless the used car is sold as CPO (certified pre-owned) by a Hyundai dealer. The dealer has to pay Hyundai Motor America about $1K to sell a car as CPO. Again, whether the car is sold as new or used may depend on the mileage and how California state law works on this.

Good Info. You seem to know more than the Sales people. So your saying if its a CPO car I would get the remainder of both 5/60 and 10/100 warranties? These cars were shipped in March 2015 and sold at auction in Sept 2016 and certified as CPO according to the Carfax report. I'm not sure about the date the warranty starts but thanks for the info. The Hyundai web site states that 10/100 warranty is only available to original owner and 5/60 transfers to subsequent owner. It would be great to get both. Thanks again

Sounds like you are looking at factory demo vehicles, which may be used vehicles under CA law. If it is used, the 5/60 warranty applies unless you have CPO paperwork that says otherwise. I would simply ask the dealer if the vehicle is being sold as "new" or "used". If they lie there are some pretty significant penalties in CA.

Everyone gets the 5/60K warranty, unless the car was not maintained properly during the warranty period. The only question is the start date on a demo or used car, which may depend on California law.

As to whether a car has a valid CPO extended drivetrain warranty, any dealer should be able to verify that if you give them the VIN (the warranty info is in the Hyundai computers). I would not rely on Carfax for that. They can also verify the start date of the warranties.

Yes, they may be demo's but not sure. Some have less than 2,000 miles and a few have as few as 20 miles. Here's a funny story about 2 of these cars. A dealer had 2 identical 2015 5.0's, White exterior and beige interior. I couldn't decide which one was best so I started to go over them and noticed many small pieces of foam laying on top of the engine of the 1st car. Looked at the 2nd car and the same thing. Popped off the top engine cover on both cars and it looks like rats or mice were chewing all the foam on the top side of the engine. The sales man said.....No worries I'll take them back to the service department and have them vacuum that up and check for damage. My concern was wire damage. I said...Thanks and Goodbye. I'm thinking they may have been sitting in a cargo container for quite a while and the rats were feasting.

I doubt they suffered damage on the ship from Korea to USA. Do they really ship them in containers, or just drive them on and off the ships?

There have been reports on this forum from others about rodents chewing on Genesis cables, mostly from people who have to park outside overnight.

They are indoors on the ships.

However... once delivered.... you never know what will happen...

Here in cali, they arrive in large RORO (Roll On Roll Off) ships. Most are driven less than 2 miles and stored out in an open parking lot here where I work. Others are driven less than 5 miles to another open storage lot near where I live. When they are ready to be processed thru customs and enter the states, they are driven less than a mile from where I work to the processing center.

Ships, especially large transport ones from over seas, have been know to harbor large rats on board. Also the area here were they are stored can have rats, ground squirrels, and rabbits. I haven't seen any rats but have seen plenty of squirrels and rabbits around here running wild.

You say the cars were sold at auction. Sounds like they auctioned off the left over stock and some car dealer bought them. So the warranty will probably be an issue. Best bet would be to contact Hyundai America and ask them. But the dealer may be telling you the truth since they have already been "sold" once. Also check with the DMV and see what they say constitutes a new or used car.

If the cars are damaged too badly, they are sent to a crusher. No parts can be taken off of them. Buddy of mine owns a junk yard where they crush them. I asked him about it one time and that is what he told me. They get inspected for them all the time and have to sign all kinds of paper work. So not worth it to deceive them.

The space between the bottom of the cover & the top of the engine is too small for a rat to gain access.

You've got mice chewing on the foam for nesting material.

This can happen if the car is outside or in a garage.

If they did any damage to the wiring, I think it would be pretty obvious immediately.

I think you should check the car out carefully and then use the mice infestation as a bargaining tool.

Then set some traps when you get home w/ the car.

Don't use poison because they'll crawl in up the heater core and stink for 6 months (at least).

The dealer says that they have CPO and MSO cars. The CPO cars have 5/60 and 10/100 starting on the date they were delivered. The MSO cars are used cars , registered as new and the 5/60 and 10/100 warranty goes into effect the day I buy the car. Is he pulling my lag?

I'd get the MSO, and negotiate a hell of a deal on the HPP, or else get it from the online source listed elsewhere here on the site.

Called Hyundai Customer Care at 8006335151 and they were super. They input the 3 vin numbers of the cars I am interested in and gave me the exact dates the warranty went into effect. All 3 qualify for 5/60 and 10/100 and have start dates of Feb 2016, Nov 2015 and Apr 2015. Now I just have to decide if I want the Red with Beige interior, Grey with beige interior or Beige with beige interior.
Thanks to all who gave feedback

Took your advice and bought the Red with Beige Interior. Beautiful. So many options it may take me a week to figure out how everything works. 5.0 is smooth and powerful. I went for extended warranty, bumper to bumper 10yr/100K, low jack and Sealant interior and exterior. I don't think I need the sealant. Anyone get this. Is it worth it or just the dealer making more money off me? Thanks for feedback. I really love this car.

My recommendati9on is to wax it yourself and skip the sealant.

The sealant is just a synthetic polymer wax, which they may, or may not, actually apply (even if you pay for it). If they do apply it, it will probably just be a liquid coating (like at car washes) that does not need to be wiped off (does not dry to a haze), and is inferior to any regular car wax in terms of longevity.

I would purchase a good quality synthetic polymer wax and apply it yourself, such as McGuire's Ultimate Liquid Car Wax. Do not use anything with Carnauba in it, as it will wear off quickly.

I would also skip the interior "sealant."

Sealants/undercoats are the second biggest scam in the auto business. The biggest scam is when they tell customers that a well worn demo has only be driven by the dealer general manager, sales manager, etc.

I know when I purchased my CPO they sold me the $800 karr alarm system. That might be the worst lol.
