  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am looking to buy a 2012 Genesis 5.0 R-spec. It only has 39k miles on it.

Would the 5 year, 60k mile warranty still apply to me even if I'm not the original owner?

Yes, however the 10 year - 100K mile drivetrain warranty only applies to original owner, unless the used car is Certified Pre-Owned by a Hyundai Dealer.

Also, the radio, entertainment, nav, etc system is only warrantied for 3 years or 36K miles.

Search this forum for issues relating to early 2012 models with 5.0 engine that had excess oil use problems.

I am fairly sure the radio nav system is also covered for the 5 year 60k mile bumper to bumper warranty, I had my usb replaced under warranty on my 2011 4.6 at 57k miles and I am the second or maybe 3rd owner.

You probably got lucky. The SCC, NAV, Sensors, etc. are only covered for 3yr/36K miles.

They probably did it because it is a cheap fix, relatively speaking. Since Hyundai cannot actually repair the head unit or amp (supplied by Harmon International), they replace the entire unit when something goes wrong. The MSRP for a head unit and amp are about $3K each, not including labor.

However, I heard that Hyundai is changing their warranty for 2016 models to include the electronics in the 5 year - 50K mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Ask your dealer about additional coverage. My plan, bought yesterday, includes the 3/36, the 5/60, and the 10/100 coverage (inclusive) to the full 10/100 term. This was a CPO car to begin with, but covering the speakers, etc...bonus.

Right after I bought my car the passenger rear door speaker, not sure which one but I believe it was the midrange blew and it rattled and made the entire system sound like crap the dealer replaced that speaker no questions asked and never cost me a dime. This is not the dealer I bought the car from either just a dealer I choose based on attitude when I drove in.

You did not say what the date of original purchase was (original owner) nor the mileage. The warranty terms are listed on the Hyundai USA webpage as follows:

"Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system and Bluetooth®): for MY 15 and prior, 3 years/36,000 miles—Equus: 5 years/60,000 miles"
https://www.hyundaiusa.com/assurance/america-best-warranty.aspx

If your Genesis had more than 3 years/36,000 miles, then either they made a mistake, or they don't consider the speakers to be part of the audio system.

I have said it in other posts but not in this one.

I bought my 2011 sedan on Jan 16th 2015, mileage at the time 56,643.
I believe I am the second owner.

Isn’t the 2012 the year with questionable oil burning problem for the Rspec. If it is then some further research is warranted especially as to the build date. Considerably low mileage could be an indication a early trade in. Further I would try to look at past service records through any means available.

The partial year production for 2012 oil consumption is real. Nothing to be afraid of... Like I saw someone advertising for sale a FL Ultimate 5.0, he used the "defect" of getting a new set of tires for free as a selling point.. IF the one you are looking at has the defective rings, your 39k mile motor becomes a zero mile motor.. They will get you a new one (in most cases). Better than getting free tires.. :)
