  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wavy gravy front windshield

Ok, I'm reviving an old thread.

I've been going round and round with the dealer on this.

Now the claim is that ALL 2015 Genesis' have this defect. My BS detector is going off. I know that I'm particularly sensitive to the distortion, so it might just be a me thing.

I'm asking all you 2015 Genny owners out there to carefully look out the right side of the windshield from the driver's side and see if you can detect a wavyness. It helps if you scan with your eye and have the car pointed at something with a regular pattern, like siding. It also helps to have a clean windshield.

First off, did the dealer say that all 2015 Genesis have this "defect" or just that all Genesis windshields look the same?

All glass will show some distortion if you look through it at an angle. Clearly (pun intended) when looking at an angle you are looking through more glass and this can cause a distortion as windshields are laminated. How much of an angle is needed to see the distortion?

Are other people able to "see" the distortion you see? I mean independent observers with no vested interested in whether or not you get a new windshield? A neighbor, an independent garage, for example.

Have you clearly stated to the dealer that you want the windshield replaced as defective? Have you escalated the issue to Hyundai's zone rep. At this point that may be worth while.

As long as others verify the existence of the problem you should get a new windshield.

Not much, I think the distorted area is in the center of the windshield. This is what I noticed with the other Genesis they brought out for comparison. Yes, they have acknowledged that there is distortion. The zone rep is my next step.

Just picked up my 2016 Genesis AWD today and went for a ride. I noticed distortion when looking straight ahead, just to the right of the HUD and above the HUD. It makes things look blurry and I'm not sure I can get used to it.

I tried cleaning the glass, thinking there was some sort of protectant on it but that didn't make any difference.

I was driving a 2015 Genesis 3.8 as a loaner the last two days and didn't see any distortion.

Take it back and get it replaced under warranty.

There shouldn't be any distortion looking straight through the window at the point you describe.
