  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This may be a silly question: does anyone wax their car after washing it themselves? If so, what do you use?

It seems like a lost art but “back in the day” I used to enjoy waxing my cars after washing. More recently I bought car wash that has wax in it or started using a car wash at the gas station that includes wax.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say MOST people don't even wash their cars, never mind wax them. lol

I used to wax my cars as well, but after ceramic coating became the mainstream go-to,....that's what I've been doing. I had my G70 professionally ceramic coated before I picked it up from the dealership. It's better than wax, in many ways, but it does help with minor scratching/marring when washing your car and can last up to 3 to 5 years, depending on the coating life that you get. That's if you do the regular maintenance when washing, which is super easy.

We only just got a GV60 (Hanauma Mint, cloudy/rainy) and it doesn't show the effect very well...but our Ioniq 6 does.. Hand brush washed...clay bar rubdown...two layers of cerakote applied two days before the heavy coastal mist/drizzle settled.
You can't tell from looking at pictures how smooth and slick it feels.
Proper prep takes some energy but the product itself is pretty easy...light misting...light spreading/evening/polishing...
The GV60 went to work on day one. It stayed home and I gave it the treatment the next day, to beat the oncoming rain.
I am in no way affiliated with cerakote or anybody selling or marketing it.
But, you asked. I say make it shine.

Thanks for the responses.

My G70 is garage kept and will likely only be driven 5 or 6 k miles a year. For now I’m gonna go with hand wash in the driveway and wax it a few times a year.

Thats me. I use a “ceramic” cleaner wax from local stores.

I haven’t hand waxed my car since I’ve have real responsibilities with a career and family.
