  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I came across a review of the Hyundai Equus at Cars.com which praised the Equus and Genesis. The author stated that if we were all logical like a Vulcan, we would be buying Hyundai over BMW and MB.

quote:

If you're like me, you'll find no overall problem with the Equus. I'm so Vulcanlike that I would rave about an excellent car if it came from Yugo. The product is its own entity, and this product is great. Unfortunately, American consumers aren't Vulcans (though apparently some are Kardashians), and they won't be flocking to buy a luxury car from Hyundai.

Ultimately, the resulting consumer confusion isn't the main obstacle. It's the fact that Hyundai is attempting to do what others have failed to do. Selling luxury cars requires a luxury brand, and that calls for a separate distribution channel — no cheap endeavor. As I said of the Genesis sedan, the Hyundai Equus is a great car for buyers who thought they could never afford a car of its ilk. If I were the operator of a car service, I'd order a dozen of the things. But until they're sold under a luxury name, the Genesis and Equus will both be here, proving what Hyundai is made of and satisfying the Vulcans among us.

I don't completely agree with him. Vulcans would not be emotionally stirred driving the Genesis, but we certainly do. We simply are not emotionally stirred by name plates such as BMW or Mercedes.

Hi Nextcar.. great post. I would say that I have been and to a certain extent am still stirred by BMW and MB. However, two main drivers pushed me to buy a Genesis: 1) Value proposition and 2) Differentiation. The first is self-explanatory. The differentiation that the Genesis brings for me is that I am different than the herd. BMW and MB's are a dime a dozen in SoCal. So while they are very nice cars they don't stand out. In addition, owning a Genesis also says that I am confident enough to be an early mover (though hats off to all of you here who were the 'bleeding edge' adopters back in 2009 and 2010).

I certainly still respect anyone who chooses to own the very fine automobiles that BMW and MB produce. After all, the Vulcans also teach IDIC - Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.

Cheers,
Newman

As a Vulcan, I must point out that Cardassians are an untrustworthy race (species) encountered during inter-galactic explorations. On the other hand, Kardashians are a deadly, cold-blooded reptilian species indigenous to the United States.
