  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looks like some functions will not be allowed on touchscreens in Europe. I imagine the same models here will follow.

Seems Genesis is OK with this so far.

Key dashboard touchscreen functions will soon be kicked into touch and physical switches will be required instead for car manufacturers to be granted the highest safety ratings.

Euro NCAP, the automotive safety industry body for Europe, is introducing new guidance for 2026 which means that five important tasks in every car will have to be performed by actual buttons instead of by accessing a screen.

Indicators, hazard warning lights, windscreen wipers, horn, and SOS features will have to be controlled by proper switches in order for cars to be granted Euro NCAP’s coveted five star safety rating.

Yea!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the so called minimalist approach of putting everything on the info screen is horrible. I want actual buttons and switches for features I use while driving; the rest can be on the screen...I don't care. I also think the motive of car companies is cost savings, not design.

My Genesis GV60 has buttons and switches and that is one of the reasons I bought it. The Tesla Models 3 and Y don't and that is one of several reasons I did not purchase a Tesla.

Yaaaa! I saw that too. Great move and I hope we follow. Having everything controlled by a touchscreen menu system makes no sense (other than to save the manufacturer money of course) and is distracting and dangerous as hell when driving. Not having some buttons and knobs for common things is just one reason why I would never buy a Tesla.
I also like having most radio and HVAC controls be physical buttons and switches as well, which is one reason why I like the G70 and EV6.

Using common sense is always a good thing and a lost art today.

Like many members that visit this site I also like having most radio and HVAC controls controlable via physical buttons or switches. The entire lower touch screen in my 2021 G80 Advanced could have been a physical 'switchboard'.
Cars have mechanical stuff all over our steering wheels these days but no screens ---- yet.
The manufactures even admit that certain funtions are not accesable in a moving vehicle via touch screens. Long way of saying no distracted driving.
Touch screens, while interesting, try too hard to pretend they're our [sometimes] irritating smart phones. I doubt I'm alone when trying to communicate with almost all touch screens. Seems the longer it takes for my finger to be noticed is proportional to the harder I stab at the damn icon that I'm trying to wake up. I've tried not using vulgal language after several tries. Doesn't help.
Touch screens these days are fairly easy to build and are lighter (a plus for MPG) but come on, it's time to pull back a bit.
I drove the new Mercedes EV S Class the other day. Drive one and witness what screen overkill looks like.
Funny but I can't remember being blinded by the reflection off the mechanical switches in my 'good old days' cars?
