  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Don't know if this site was ever posted here but I just came across it today. And, what do you know... There is a TSB that was posted last year about the flexing/broken wires on the trunk hinge.

Thanks arcman. excellent info.

The TSB doesn't mention anything about the trunk release switch. Are wires in that harness for the trunk release power and the trunk release switch?

My trunk release switch isn't working (remote release does work and switch in car works), and I thought the wiring might be in that harness.

I'm not willing to pay Hyundai probably north of $500 to diagnose what is likely a shorted wire. I have a new trunk release switch so I doubt that's the problem,

Yes, they are related. I had the trunk switch replaced, next was wire harness replacement when it stopped working again.

Interesting that they say to discard the bracket marked "M".... That may be the source of the rub/break.

I did a write-up of my repair of the harness.
You'll be surprised to see the damage!
I also recommended eliminating that attachment point...
The "fix" is all the way at the bottom of the thread...

Thanks for your post. I have the same issue and dug into it last night and my lord, most of the wires were completely severed if not almost. I was blown away at this sh*t engineering design. Regardless I have an issue-- there are 3 black wires that were all severed. Same color. So, I am not sure what to connect these to, meaning 3 black wires need to go to 3 black wires. Why these are not different colors I will never know. Anyone have any idea what to do here? And after all of this, it did not fix the problem and now i have no brake lights when I press my brakes. running lights work, no brakes. Nothing else is working (Camera, back up light etc). its like I made it worse. So very pissed at Hyundai, this should be a recall not a TSB.

As I said on the other thread, those are probably the ground wires, so it probably matters not which black wire you connect to. To be sure, use a volt meter and find a hot lead. See if those are in fact ground wires.

That was my thinking too, that it would not matter, but after doing all of this, now my brake lights do not work when the brakes are pressed. The fun just increases here....I am going to try moving the wires on the 3 blacks to see if that changes anything, unless you think that is a bad idea?

Will nit hurt if they are ground wires.

Update- found there was a third fuse box on my dash. Found a popped rear brake fuse and thought I was golden. Replaced that and now I cannot put my car into reverse, or drive, the stickshift is totally locked, and of course everything else is still broken. I have to play the manual shift game by popping that cap off and pressing down on that release. So, If anyone wants to fly to Denver and empty a clip into me, it would be welcomed right about now....wtf....

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
And a new error on the dash has joined the party, this one is Check LDWS, along with the other christmas tree going on

Sounds like time to eat a sh!t sandwich and go to the dealer.

Amen to that brother. Shit sandwich being eaten as even more went down last night--

***Update--- Reverse lights do not work whatsoever and speedometer is dead, and having to use the manual method to get my car into gear, it is now in limp mode with the check engine light on. My car does 0-60 in 10minutes. cant even drive on the highway. Taking to the dealer Oct 1. FML and really disappointed with the poor engineering design that has caused this massive disruption to my life. Shame on you Hyundai, this should be a recall not a technical service bulleting, as it can easily start a fire in the car.

... as it can easily start a fire in the car.
Could it really? This issue has shown no signs of doing so thus far. Perhaps they got the fuse sizes correct this time...
Not everything that fails over time is worthy of an actual recall. Still, this could actually qualify. Not for any imagined fire risk, but for the safety risk of the brake lights not working.

Eh....if wires are frayed from this, they touch each other and cause a short which can arc and create a spark. That of course can lead to fire. Just my opinion.

Only if there is enough current, and fuses limit the current.

I'd call Genesis directly. Scan the documents you have and ask for the Advisor's e-mail address. That way, they know what you do and now you have a way to contact them via e-mail.

Update: everything now works except the back up camera. This was all related to the TSB-20-BE-007H. I went back and started over with the repair. Checked every single wire and re-joined them making sure each stripped end was 100% in contact and then checked every single fuse in all 3 fuse boxes. I found a blown fuse in the engine compartment that I possible had missed (It was a 15amp TCU). Replaced that Everything now works with the exception of the back-up camera. But, I can shift normally now, speedometer works, car has same power, no lip mode, no check engine lights on, no warning lights etc. It is perfect except the back up camera which I could care less at this point based on the way it was. I also thing the intermittent start issue was because the shop did not tighten my + terminal very well, it was a little loose. I was told by a mechanic before I did this second repair to also remove the + battery wire. The TSB states to remove the - . He told me when I had checked all fuses and repaired all wires making sure they were all making contact to then disconnect the batter and touch the + and - wires together to disburse any remaining power in the circuit. Well, when you full disconnect the batter on the genesis, Those 2 wires dont reach so I just used a jumper cable to connect them. Then I reconnected all and everything worked (except the back up cam). Clearly when I repaired the first time my wire nuts were not making a connection on one of the wires or I possible missed the TCU fuse. Moral to this story- double check your work and make sure your wires all all touching and good. Of course now I will overkill the harness with conduit, etc. Thx all for the help and I hope this helps someone else as well!

Since pretty much every other wire was broken, did you take a good look at the shielded wires? A blue and pink inside are the cameras wires.
