  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am getting close to finally pulling the trigger on a 2013 rspec.
I have done tons of research, and finally got the point where i test drove one.
The car was very quiet and comfortable. I did the drive with the radio off so i could hear any weird sounds it made. It had 12 miles on it.

I heard something like a whooshing/whistling coming from the drivers side of the engine department when I would accelerate hard. It almost sounds like the air filter was plugged or loose.

I am hoping that this is a noise that was specific to this particular car. Any ideas what it could be? This isn't a noise that any of you Rspec owners have is it? It is not super loud, at the levels I listen to the radio, I doubt i will hear it, but it was enough to be annoying.

What do you all think?

Without actually hearing it in person my guess would be that the sound is being generated by air entering the engine at full throttle or something close to it. My R-spec makes very little noise when opening the throttle but I've not yet tried a full throttle getaway (not enough miles).

My R spec with 18 k on it has no unusual noise. It must be air induction system....but I can't imagine Hyundai changing it on a carryover vehicle.

Heard the same thing on one and asked the salesman. He said it was normal. Went to another dealership and drove a different one. No noise and better deal.

I plan on driving it at least once or twice more before i buy one.
I have driven powerful cars in the past and never heard that sound. It was a sucking/whistling sound. I have heard it in the past when i didnt lock in the airbox on my Camry. I wasnt going to pop the hood and start diagnosing someone else's car, so i didnt go any further.

Thanks guys
