  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
After many hours of research, thinking and test driving, I finally made the decision to get rid of my Genesis and purchase a new car. I was looking for a RWD V-8 sedan with over 400hp and yesterday, I finally pulled the trigger. I picked up a Dodge Charger Scat Pack and couldn't be happier with my decision. It's a great looking car and with the 485hp 6.4 motor, It's stupid fast. (I give myself a less than a week before my first ticket...)

My final choices were down to the Charger, Chevy SS or a 2G Genesis 5.0, and the Charger won in all respects. I've really enjoyed my Genesis, but in the end, I couldn't justify buying a newer one with the limited aftermarket support and grandfatherly looks of the newer models. I had looked at the Kia Stinger and G80 Sport, but neither one fit my criteria and I just couldn't stomach paying +$55k on a Kia. o_O I never considered myself to be a MOPAR guy before but it should be interesting. I can't wait to try out the Launch Control feature! :D

Good luck with the Dodge and their reliability issues (transmissions especially). Not sure why folks are so hell bent on getting the "fastest car around" when they just go to and from work, drop kids off at school, or go to Target. Can't legally race around city streets doing that. So to me it's a waste of money chasing that "dream".

But have fun and don't let the door hit ya.....

Looks like fun. I may have made that choice if I was 20 again. Just not enough opportunities to use all that HP. Enjoy it. Never owned a Mopar product myself.

FCA has gotten better in the quality department over the past few years. There is no denying that in the looks and bang for the buck department Mopar has cornered the market on big body high horsepower RWD cars. and second only to Ford in the aftermarket world, even GM of the last 10 years doesn't have the high level of aftermarket support that Mopar does.

I had a 300c SRT8 back when they made them. Was one of my favorite cars to mod and drive, even with the major warranty issues. the car was just fun. Plus one of the few every day drivers you can take to a track and have fun with, can't ever see myself doing that in a Genesis, but my car serves a different purpose for me now in my old age.

check out LXFORUMS.com for Mopar support (I'm a member there as well same username). and Good Luck and have fun with the car..

@Mr. Incredible, I'll definitely check out LXForums, thanks for the advice! I'll be really honest in the fact that choosing the Charger had a lot to do with abundance of aftermarket support. While I don't intend to go crazy with mods, it's nice to know that I'll have a healthy choice of suppliers if I do want to do something. One of my longtime friends owns a small performance shop here and over the past few years has become the defacto expert on all things hemi. His main bread and butter lately is building turbo kits for the SRT-8 Cherokee crowd, modding the Trackhawk among other hemi projects.

@EdP , you're never too old. ;) I'm 45 and I'm at a point at my life where I just want to have another car is an absolute blast to drive. The Genesis wasn't fitting that bill, so she had to go.

@Alfer, sometimes you just gotta say 'F' it. I wouldn't call it 'chasing the dream' as you put it, but rather just letting go a bit. Besides, sometimes its nice to drive a car with a big ole set of balls. (y)

my wife called this my mid-life crisis, it started when I was about 38 and ended this year as I am turning 50.

2005 300c SRT8 modded to hell
2008 Corvette modded to hell
2010 Avalanche Z71 4x4 lifted and modded to hell for off roading
2012 Camaro modded to hell
2015 Lexus RCF modded lightly, bought a house in 2012 so started modding that in 2014.
in the mists of all that ^^^^ I built a 1932 Ford 5-window Coupe and a 1939 Ford Tudor Sedan, sold the '32 to finish the '39.

2018 G80 lease, no mods. Wife calls it my old man car. Says I've finally gotten past my mid-life crisis and entered into the down hill run to death.. She truly enjoys making fun of me getting old.. Because I'm a gentleman and love her, I never point out the fact she is older than me..:ROFLMAO:

Well, best of luck to you and I'm glad that you found a car that ticks all the boxes for you. But just as a point of clarification, you wouldn't have had to pay anywhere close to $55k for a Stinger, especially if you were considering a 2018. Dealers in my area are discounting them 10% right of the top before any further negotiation, and then Kia is throwing money at potential customers by offering up to $8,700 lease cash. So that reduces the price of a GT2 by about $14k right there. Kia is even giving away up to $6,100 already on 2019s.

Congrats on the new ride! I was actually very seriously considering a Charger SRT when I ultimately sided with the Genesis. The tech and AWD won me over, but that Charger is one hell of a car.

Have an... appropriate and responsible amount of fun. With launch control. Hah. Good luck! ;)

As a heads up, any one that is looking for a solid 2012 5.0 in the Orlando area, the dealership that I traded my car to has it listed on their lot for pretty cheap. It's got a fairly new Magnaflow catback, and 20" wheels/tires. Good luck!

Kind of curious if the new owner of my old car found his/her way here. Any one in the central Florida area pick up a white non-R spec 5.0 lately? lol. It was for sale at Central Florida Chrysler, Jeeep Dodge and was only on the lot for a couple of days before it sold.
