  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, that didn't last long...(Car Already Hit)

Update - Called the other party's adjuster to see whats going on. His adjuster claims that he can't get in contact with the guy who hit my car, and that it appeared based off of the description I gave him, the policy owner was driving a vehicle that wasn't covered under his insurance. I thought that if you had insurance, it covered any vehicle you drove? I guess not.

In any event, I decided to stop playing games with them and go through my insurance. It's already considered a not at fault claim, and they are going to go after him through either insurance or suing him.

The damage estimate I received today was $1,320.

Happened to me once. My year-old car got rear-ended by a $40k Durango. I ask the cop to make sure he had insurance. He said he checked (my guess is the dude had an insurance card).

What the cop didn't bother checking was that the guy hadn't cancelled the policy a couple of days after getting that piece of paper.

Bottom line - fix came out of my deductible. Turns out the guy was living in government-subsidized housing, driving a $40k car with no insurance. I can't stand leeches.

The worst part is I called the cop, and he did nothing. I thought driving without insurance was illegal... you'd think the cops would freaking help keep these jackwagons from doing this sort of thing... oh well.

OP - I feel for you!

Thanks man. The guy has his coming to him. GEICO seemed pretty determined to get the money back because their investigations department has already called me asking for all of the info I had. Luckily, I had a chance to copy down his driver's license info, and the plate of the vehicle he was driving. Straight up said they were going to serve him with a letter demanding payment or recourse to legal action.

On a side note - so far thoroughly impressed with GEICO so far. I made the appointment on line for the estimate. They had a rental on site at the auto body place. The entire process took about 15 minutes, and I was out of there. Next thing I know (they didn't tell me this), I'm receiving updates to my phone via text about the status of my car and the expected completion date of close of business on 12 April. Have never received service like that thus far. Kudos to them at this point.

I always get as much information as possible from the other driver, as well. It's not that hard for someone to present an insurance card for a policy that's no longer in force, but a fake or out-of-date driver's license is less likely.

Glad to hear that the gecko is working overtime for you! Last year, when my car was only three months old, I found some scrapes on the paint near the rear wheel well - I suspect someone hit me, but never found out who, so repair was an out-of-pocket expense. Luckily, there was no sheet metal damage, and the body shop matched the paint perfectly.

Thats crazy if that is your car and was hit in the Wal Mart parking lot like that.

Got my car back. All is well. The paint seems really sticky like it's not dried. I'll take it back if it doesn't get better.

I know that if I post this, the next time I'm parked in an extra wide, end parking space in an empty lot, an F-350 driven by a 16 year old will take out a body panel - - - however, I have not a single ding, dent or anything in almost 10,000 miles. But I'm going in for my second windshield!!

Not my car! Found it Google-ing "Genesis Salvage" I discovered there are more wrecked Genesi than I ever imagined were sold.

This one- fatality as "BIO" marked on the door. Must has just driven off lot, because the plastic is still on the floors, the headrest and over the Hyundai "H" on the steering wheel.

Looks like it went under the back of a semi-trailer then tagged in the rear.

At least the damage was minimal, and you're OK, that's all that really matters.

More than I can say for myself and my hyundai! :(

You have to wonder why anybody who was hit by another vehicle would wait more than a few hours to report it to his insurance company.
