  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Uber plus rolled out in LA recently and originally the Genesis was on the list of approved luxury vehicles. Uber plus pays drivers more than Uber x and I was thinking of trying it on weekends to make some extra cash. Uber claims you have to have a 2007 or newer 4 door sedan that's mostly stock and with a leather interior to qualify. Sounds like the Genesis qualifies right? WRONG.

But at the same time they'll accept much smaller Audi A4's, Mercedes C Class and BMW 3 series. All of which ironically don't come stock with a real leather interior. Plus they're not as big as the Genesis. But I guess for Uber it's all about the perception of luxury instead of the reality.

I sent an email to the local uber people and they simply said the Genesis doesn't qualify. Total B.S.

Those guys have never ridden in an LA Taxi. They should welcome Genesis owners with open arms.

SoCal, you have a private message about Uber and insurance. I didn't want to hijack this thread.

I just responded but I'm not actually an Uber driver. I had just been considering it once I saw Uber plus rolling out and that the Genesis was originally a luxury car on the list which would have paid a lot better than the regular Uber x rates. I have a friend who drives for Uber x every so often on weekends. He likes it.

These are all the cars Uber thinks are better than the Genesis.

Acura RDX, RLX, TL, TLX, MDX
Audi A4, Q3, Q5
BMW 3 Series, 4 Series, X1, X3, X4
Cadillac ATS, CTS, DTS, SRX
Chrysler 300
Hummer H2, H3
Infiniti EX, FX, G, JX, M, Q, QX
Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
Lexus ES, IS, RX
Lincoln MKT, MKS, MKX, MKZ, MKC, Town Car
Mercedes-Benz C-class, GLK-Class
Porsche Macan
Volvo S60, S80, XC60, XC70, XC90

Uber are Genesis racists... :) serious, they are crazy. What about Lyft?

Out of curiosity, Tesla sedan in the list?

Nope. Just the ones I listed above. They said the list might change again...

Originally the Genesis, Equis and Kia K900 were on the list. Then they took them all off.

Who in their right mind would want to use a Genesis as a taxi? Especially in beat-down El A!

Me. Most of LA is not "beat down" and you're not using it for a taxi. You're using it as a ride share to take yuppies to the hair salon. The puking drunks use Uber X. Not Uber Plus. I would never drive for Uber X.

About a month ago I traveled across El A via I-10 and various side streets. They are the equivalent of our ghetto roads here. Couple that with the speed freaks and people without drivers licenses (*ahem*) over there and you can see why I might be concerned.

If, and it is a giant if, I ever must travel to El A by car again in my lifetime I will rent a piece of junk rather than subject my Genny to those nasty roads and idiot drivers.

Back on subject.....again, I ask, why would anyone buy such an expensive car and then use it as a taxi. And yes, driving people unknown to you between night clubs is taxi usage. Wait until one of them launches lunch in your direction. And, as an aside, I hope you have informed your insurance company of its use as a commercial vehicle because virtually all individual policies prohibit such usage and should the car be damaged they can legally refuse to pay your claim and cancel your policy.

Amen! (I think that means +1)

We Genesis owners have too much class to allow complete strangers to use and abuse our vehicles. Then there is that little matter of having a gun held to your head when you least expect it. "Take me to Tijuana pronto, MF!"

You guys really know nothing about Uber. THEY provide you insurance that kicks in when you're taking a job. Your personal auto policy is unaffected. Also, drivers AND passengers get ratings and passengers can get kicked off the system. Plus the riders credit card is tied to the app and able to be tracked. It's not like driving through the ghetto and having someone wave their hand at you for a ride.

If I wanted to drive a taxi I'd buy a Checker.

I don't need somebody in my car holding a latte and wearing Depends. Let them ride in a Mercedes.

Good! So you beat your Genny to death....but with class.

I don't really want to use my car for Uber, but the OP has a point. The Genesis really should be included on that list.

My wife has a 2012 Lincoln MKS and the ride is a little better than my 2011 4.6, but the Genesis, to me, has a better interior. They are too close to quibble, so I don't get why Genesis is not included other than that it is a mere Hyundai.
