What’s going on with my Genesis

I have a Genesis 3.8 2011. Second owner. We lost the contact with the original owner. The car has some modification whereas the clutch does not have to be engaged to start the engine, unlike most cars. Probably related to this modification, the engine light is on. My local mechanic, not a Genesis specialist, can not turn the engine light off and does not understand what modifications were done to the car. Any ideas from this description what the modification would be, and how to undo it, maybe permanently, but at least long enough so that we can smog the car? Thank you! Mark

Was it a auto from the factory then later in life it was manual swapped. Maybe the vin can tell you if it started life as a auto.

Would say they bypassed the clutch safety switch.
