What aftermarket brake pads have you had success with on your V8 Genesis?

I had to replace my front pads and rotors @ 48k miles on my R-Spec. I cheaped out and went with generic composite rotors (replacing with Centric Premiums now) and went with Powerstop Z17 pads. It's only been a few thousand miles and I can't deal with these horrible brakes anymore. They are the worst pads I've ever put on a car. Even after proper bedding they have zero initial bite, and very underwhelming stopping power. The pedal feel is god awful and they and they squeal until the rotor completely wipes clean each time the car has sat for few hours.

However looking at all of the alternatives I'm finding on RockAuto, CarID, and local shop sites i'm getting either bad reviews or no reviews. I've had luck with EBC Greenstuff and Redstuff on previous cars but this car is much heavier and I don't want to have to deal with that amount of dust. The only other option seems to be OEM pads, but on every other car I've always been able to get better results for less out of aftermarket. Is this not the case with Genesis pads? I'm not worried about how well they deal with heat or fade resistance. I just want something that I can confidently use in my daily driver and that offers good pedal modulation. I'm much more familiar with performance pads, but I have limited experience with the OE-equivalent/street offerings that are offered in Genesis fitment.

I think the Genesis OEM brakes are excellent. Maybe your previous experience with other cars doesn't apply in this case.

I have Powerstop Z26 pads on my ZL1, and they work just fine. Wouldn't hesitate to try them on my Genesis too, but at 65k miles my Genny still has plenty of original OEM pad life left.

What did you do to your Rspec that cooked the rotors at 48k?

these cars are so easy on pads, it surprises me you had to replace them at 48k miles, let alone the rotors. You had to be doing some real hard braking, tracking it even, to fry the rotors completely by 48k. Not at all related to your question(as I'm on OE pads), but I am really blown away and almost impressed by the abuse you've given your brakes.

I got uneven deposits in the front 2 times within 20k miles. After machining the rotors twice I didn't want to do it again after the pads started wearing groves into he rotors.. So I replaced everything and apparently chose crappy parts to do it with.

ahhh gotcha. I've been seeing a lot of talk on here with my research on these cars about them performing poorly with aftermarket pads/rotors as well which baffles me. I've been working on cars as a profession and/or hobby my entire adult life and I have never come across a car that, somehow miraculously, needed factory pads or rotors.

Sometimes the manufacturer does thing right. Things change.

Wow, I've put those powerstop pads on a number of cars and have found them to be outstanding including my Genesis.

SOMETIMES being key here lol. The only part that I will always go factory on any car is cartridge filters. I'm not going to be a part of something like the big Ford debacle lol.... and apparently Genesis brake parts too from what I read here.

Depends on the pad and how often you wanna replace rotors, if anything the OEM pads are very good. The EBC stuff ain't bad, I prefer Hawk HPS pads for street, and if you want carbotech pads are awesome, but will eat rotors due to aggressive compound. I don't bother with anything other than OEM, Hawk, or carbotech.

I can second Hawk HPS pads from a performance and durability standpoint, but they do make a lot more noise than OEM pads. I recently put EBS Red's with SS lines all the way around and like them a lot. Every once in a while I will get a squeak when braking in reverse. IMHO, they do not dust more than the OEM pads, but the dust is darker and more visible. They have good cold performance, good initial bite, and take the heat a lot better than the OEM. With the OEM pads I had to be very careful to not get uneven deposits, the Reds do not have the same issue at the same level of use. I have put a LOT of high speed heat into them with no uneven depositing and much better than stock fade performance. They are also noticeably harder on the rotors. (I consider rotors a consumable just like the pads, I only replace, never machine.)

Another vote for Hawk HPS pads. Less dust and good stopping power.

One thing about the Hawks, they only make pads for the front and not the rear. (At least that was the case several months ago when I was looking.) This was the primary reason I went with the EBC Reds over the Hawks.
