  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Please can any one tell me what are these signs (1,2) on my Genesis mirror? And how they operate?

Please can any one tell me what are these signs (1,2) on my Genesis mirror? And how they operate?

Number 1 is the auto dim feature. side mirrors auto dim just like your rear view mirror.

Number 2 is the heated mirror function which is enabled by turning on your rear defrost.

I believe auto dim for the outside mirrors is switched on and off when it is switched on and off for the inside rear view mirror. That is controlled by the power button on the mirror. Be careful though. On mine the mirror power button also controls other things depending on how long it is pressed.

Thanks sooo muchhhh, great features :)

Since some people don't read the manual, I will help.....The DIM means Danger In Middle lane the other lights up if the road is slippery. Auto is to remind you that you have auto folding mirrors.

One is to tell you they are heated, ( when rear defroster is on ), the other tells you it 'auto dims' when bright lights are shining on them from the rear. Exactly the same feature as on your rear view mirror when the associated green lite is on.

What Genesis models came with the auto dimming feature? I've never noticed any signs in the mirror so does that mean I don't have it. The owners manual doesn't mention any signs either, just says it dims with the inside mirror.

What have you been smoking?

Both my 2010 4.6 tech and my 2012 Rspec have both features. Now I am in Canada so things may be a little different such as we also get heated steering wheels up here. :p

What happens when you hold the power button longer?

Hmmm...

I have had my rear defroster on.. and the mirrors dont "light up"

do they sense when the mirrors need heating...and the rear defroster needs to be on?

The auto dimming feature senses when the light hitting them is too bright and then dims them accordingly, as far as the heated portion is concerned your rear window defroster needs to be on....that is manually operated by the owner and not automated by any sensors.

yes... I get the rear defroster is manually operated.

MY condition is.... after I turn on my rear defroster....I do not see the side mirrors illuminate for the "heat" ...

Does that meant my mirrors are not heating.... or is there a sensor or some other condition that caused the mirrors to illuminate the "heat" symbols on the mirror.

They do not illuminate nor were they meant to. If covered in ice you will see it melt rather quickly though.

Thanks!
