  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What are your expectations for the Genesis G70?

I concur on the size being approximately the same as a G37. For the performance model, I expect a 2018 clone of a 2015 BMW 335i, with the 2018 release lining up with the next generation 3 series.

I'm thinking the G70 will be a little smaller than the Q50 and the K8 a bit larger.

Thanks, Yeh! Wow, that Kia is looking good. I wonder what it'll cost... I guess the Kia version of the G80 will be the best route for current Hyundai Genesis owners to go if they don't feel the need to spend the extra money...

Gotta believe that Kia will undercut the G80 by some - tho maybe not as much as one may think as the K8 will likely have a more luxurious interior and more amenities to start. So probably in the $37-39k range.

The question is whether Kia will offer things like valet service (so avoid the going to a Kia dealership) - which I don't think is necessary, unlike, say complimentary loaners.

As for the G70 - now that we're seeing 0-60 times of 5.3 seconds for the twin turbo V6 in the big, heavy Genesis G90 - I can only imagine how that'll translate to the smaller, much lighter Genesis G70! I'm thinking we're going to see a real legitimate BMW 340i competitor here. 0-60 in 4.5 - 4.7 seconds is my guess...

And let's not forget, there's supposed to a higher output version of the 3.3TT; would not be surprised if that ends up in a performance version of the G70.

It sounds like Kia is going to have one heck of a car on their hands...

If that's the case then I bet we'll see either the naturally aspirated 3.8 liter V6 or a 2.0T in the tame version and the twin turbo V6 in the high performance version...

Is the G70 taking the place of a current (2016 or earlier) model? I've not heard/seen anything about the G70.

^ The G70 is a brand new model and the Genesis brand's entrance into the luxury compact sedan segment (albeit on the larger side).

Just as the 2 upcoming crossovers and 2-door coupe/GT will be brand new models.

The major problem with the G70 is that it's not an SUV, or a CUV. That's the kind of vehicle that should have been next out of the chute from Genesis Motors. That's what folks are buying most these days.

That's true, however people tend to forget there are still a massive number of cars being sold, just that the numbers are less than they were recently (but not less than the volumes sold just a few years back). There are still a ton of people who won't buy any SUV/CUV. And the 3 series/ A4/S4 luxury compact segment is still alive and well, the buyers of which are the least likely to want any SUV/CUV.

Don't forget that the people who fired Dave Zuckowski were lamenting lost sales opportunities. Sedans are the vehicles most languishing on dealer lots.

A few years ago, gas was $3.50 - $4.00 gal, and SUVs were suffering. That changed with the lower price of gas. Part of the issues is product development, and part of the issue is production capacity. Hyundai is still capacity limited as to SUVs. There was a story a while back that discussed adding a factory in the USA for additional production capacity, but I don't know that it got the green light yet from Korea. In addition, if HMA built a USA plant, it would be typical for them to start production of a new model in Ulsan first, and then possibly move it to the US plant after another mid range model has "broken in" the new plant so to speak. Ulsan and Asan have been pretty much maxed out for most lines, and it's only been worse with some of the labor issues in South Korea.

In a perfect world, they could just prioritize the X3 competitor SUV, and bring the G70 later, but these plans were laid years ago.

Throwing my hat in for realistic expectations...

1) 2.0T -> see out going Genesis Coupe -> I can see them keeping a 6MT and slush box, though would be interesting if they consider a ZF or DCT upgrade
2) 3.3TT -> see Genesis G90 -> Likely stick with the 8-speed automatic, not sure who makes this, not sure if we will see it in the initial release neither...but if there is a 6MT option, I think this would push the car to the front of the line!!!

Hopefully optional AWD, that was the only reason I sold my 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe for an Audi S4. Then of course the winters around here got very soft...go figure...

I am thinking since the S4 is here, and I hope Hyundai errr Genesis brings the 3.3TT so I can compare...the new chassis in the A4 is awesome compared to my current S4. HOWEVER, if Hyundai can a least match my current Audi I am going to give the G70 a VERY strong consideration. The other item is just interior...will need seat time to really decide.

While it would be nice (and good for Hyundai/Genesis) if the next model out had been a crossover, auto-makers usually do the sedan before the crossover based on the same platform.

So, in all likelihood, the 1st crossover would be the larger G80 based CUV.

I suspect even w/ the increased move to CUVs, that the G70 will sell in greater volume than the G80-based CUV.

While in a totally different segment, the Elantra Sport/SR has been getting pretty positive reviews (the SR beating the Civic RS in Australian comparisons for both the fun factor/handling, including steering feedback - which has long been a weak point on Hyundais).

The Elantra-N (or the i30-N) should be that much better.

So, I think we should be fairly confident in Hyundai making the G70 a true RWD sports sedan as opposed to the G80 and G90 which are more like luxo-cruisers.

Now, of course, this doesn't mean that the G70 will be the most dynamic in the segment, but it doesn't have to be (just needs to be competitive) - as the G70 will lose out some in being larger and presumably heavier than some of its rivals.

The choice of transmission for the G70 will be interesting.

Depending on the market, Hyundai is offering a slush-box and DCT on the Elantra Sport/SR.

Hyundai supposedly has been working on a DCT that can handle more power/torque, but that's likely for the FWD models like the N-versions of the Elantra and i30 and maybe also finding its way to the more powerful versions of the Sportage, Santa Fe, Sorento, Optima and Sonata as well.

Knowing Biermann, he probably insisted that the G70 be offered w/ a manual or at least a DCT (if Hyundai has been working on that, may not be available upon launch).

What are your expectations for the Genesis G70?

Here are the list:
1) G90 Engine 3.3 Turbo 370HP
2) G80 Sport Front End
3) G90 Interior and Dashboard with 12" screen
4) Refresh New Tail Light
5) Reduce the size of the car around 192 inch long
6) Apple Carplay and Auto Android

I'll pay $60K full price cash no question ask.

Liked your wish list, up to the length. 192 inches is the length of mid size family cars (eg: Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion), not Audi A4s (185"), BMW 3 series (182.5"), Cadillac ATS (182.8") etc. If its big as a family hauler there's no way I'd be interested at all.

make sport version with 3.3T engine , All-Wheel Drive. make it a hatchbak just like A5 Sportback and BMW 4.

also the V6 engine on G80, you don't feel the torque at all, the torque should come in at lower rpm.

Is it safe to say the G70 will be the Genesis version of the Kia Stinger GT? I love that hatchback design, but not a fan of the 4cyl base engine. Could be a huge delta between the 4cyl and 3.3T V6 models.

I don't think the two are going to be so similar. I think the Stinger is more or less Kia's G80. I'm almost certain the G70 will be smaller and lighter...

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Would'nt the G70 be based on the Azera with design & luxury from the Genesis line?

Looks like Hyundai has decided to kill off the Azera.

Think it's safe to say that the Stinger is sportier than the G80 (in part due to being smaller and lighter and in part due to a different direction in development) and Hyundai has stated that the G70 will be sportier than the Stinger (in part due to being smaller and lighter and in part due to Hyundai developing the G70 from the onset as a true sports sedan; the Stinger being developed more as a GT).

Hoping for a solid, advanced, reliable car to replace my wife's Genesis V8. It now has 86k mi and she will trade at about 100k. She is totally happy with it except it does not drive as well as her Acura TL-S drove, but was better than the Acura she tried before getting the Genesis.

Am also considering the Stinger which I suspect will be very close to the same car.

If the pub and excitement drive/keep the cost of the Stinger up, the G70 may be our choice.

Oh, Stinger peeps are expecting a 5.1 to 4.9 time 0-60 for the TT V6.

Hyundai got into the Genesis product by including most of the luxury of the Euro/Japanese companies, but at a better price point. So for Genesis, now that it is its own company, to develop a G70 and remove content doesn't make too much sense, IMHO. So if you start with what's in the Azera (somewhat being replaced by the G70), it is a larger bodied Sonata, with a V6 vs. a 4, heated/cooled front seats plus upscale interior materials all standard. So figure Genesis will add, rather than subtract, and you'll get a FWD car with all of this plus maybe extra rear seats cooled. Plus add Genesis warranty covering service for 3-5 years and perhaps valet too. Azera already has GPS, bluetooth and decent stereo std. and figure upgraded for G70. Handling hopefully not standard Hyundai, but more Euro design with various settings. One could hope for Lotus input on that? Big difference in that it is a FWD/AWD chassis vs. Sonata RWD.
