I use a large plastic panel tool with a pry curve to wedge in-between the gap where the boot touches the shift knob chrome trim bottom section. I then pry one side at a time until the boot popped off. However, I did not want to break the tabs holding the boot at the time because I was not sure the tabs were part of the boot or the shift knob.Okay so I gave it a go and was able to remove the boot. However I couldn't remove the old shifter knob from the boot. Any tips would be helpful.
You can also turn the boot inside out and try to use a pick tool to press the plastic tabs holding the boot inward to break the tabs to release them if you are not concerned about reusing the old shift knob. The tabs are attached to the knob shaft, so the boot will still be usable even if you break the tabs. This would be the quickest method.
