  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What did you do with your DH Genesis today?

A new drilled/slotted rotors and pads, cleaned engine bay, washed, waxed, etc. Now she looks good ;)

IS that required for the 5.0? Is it a DI engine?
Yes, the 5.0 is an direct injected engine. However, a catch can is not required. But in theory a catch can could minimize the carbon build up due to reducing oily blow-by that gets recycled back into the stock PCV intake induction system and coat the valve stems.

I also installed one on my '12 GMC Sierra with the 5.3 engine at the same time, and its already collected some sludge. I would say the can is doing its job.

Replaced my high level brake light. The old one was completely trashed! Took like 20-30 mins and my only frustration was being 6'6" and trying to fit in that small space.

Someone should do a video of the process...
I thought about it. Essentially just pull on the headcover until the clips snap out, remove the headrests, unplug the light, use a 10mm socket and ratchet and remove three bolts, pull until the clip comes free. Line up your new component, snap the clip in place, ratchet the bolts in, plug the new light in, and gently push up on the headcover until the clips snap back into place.

Owners of 2015+ Genesis models should just save their money by not buying the GDS VCI units sold by Chinese distributors online. The newer Genesis ECU seems to only work with GDS units only if they have an firmware 2.30 or higher update; however the update render the cheap GDS unit useless. The newer updates also requires a new dealer code that the cheap unit sellers does not provide. The cheap units use an old dealer code. The cheap GDS unit with the 2.20 firmware may work on older pre-2015 Genesis, but not the 2015 and newer models.

The one good thing I got from this purchase is that I do have some updated service information from the GDS software, but the tool itself is useless. The service data alone is not worth $120. The data cable is not the issue on why the VCI unit does not connect to my Genesis; it is the firmware. I am trying to get a full refund now.

Note: There is some workarounds available online to get a cheap GDS to work with the 2.30 firmware, however I will just cut my losses and buy a high end Launch brand scan tool that can program keys and control modules that work on all my cars.

This is the screen you get when you try to update the GDS software and firmware. It asks for a current dealer code that is not provided.

Update: I decided to try buying a better quality OBD data cable for the GDS that is not the generic cable supplied with the cheap GDS VCI kits. The company I purchased the GDS VCI from ended up sending a entire GDS kit; not just the cable. The new cable in the kit failure the test as well; so I will try an better made higher quality GDS cable from a company that sells GDS(and other scan tool) cables and see if the unit works with the current 2.2 firmware. However, I will not try upgrade the unit.

Hopefully; it is only a data cable issue that is preventing the GDS from connecting to my 2015 Genesis.

I don’t think the intake helps with the throttle. What helps my car with the throttle response is my pedal commander. The intake is more for induction .
Thanks! Is it the sxth intake or did you fab it up yourself?
