  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What did you pay for your Genesis G80?

Are the dealers offering these “deals” on the 2018 leftovers future Genesis dealers or bitter Hyundai dealers having no skin in the game on the future of Genesis?

Both. One dealer will never be a Genesis dealership based on their size and location but they had 2 Genesis models (both sold now) and the other is the biggest Hyundai dealership in my state (by volume) that probably will become a Genesis dealer.

So biggest Hyundai and Genesis dealer in my state is not becoming a genesis dealership.

36/12
.00154 MF and 50% residual
$6200 lease cash

I guess lease cash went up by $200?

The $6k we were talking about previously were all on the Sport I think so that could be the difference. Using those numbers, your payment should be about $625 before taxes. Here is the the link to the calculations Lease Calculator. You may want to check with the dealer and get the details of his lease calculations. Could be there are some other fee/charges involved. Let us know how it goes,

Yeah I've ran those numbers before and got the same results. These lease deals seem significantly worse than what others have been getting earlier this year. I'm guessing the limited inventory is one the main causes? I've emailed few dealerships but I may just wait another year or so.

The deals seem worse than some of the great deals that have been posted here but of course we really are only seeing a very tiny percentage of the deals made. That said though, the discounts do not seem to be what you would normally see at the end of the year. It probably is due to the current dealer situation. Good luck.

I'm still not getting these dealers to discount much if anything off msrp. Greedy greedy. What a shame.

Greedy is in the eye of the beholder.

It is a shame. Very greedy. Maybe there’s an exit strategy for dealers where they sell them back to GMA for distribution elsewhere. Not sure the logic holding a depreciating item expecting 2019 pricing.

The other night I was thinking about possible reasons for the lack of what would seem to be normal discounting. The dealers that are not becoming Genesis dealers are receiving compensation as part of the exit package. I wonder if there is some type of language in that agreement that prevents them from discounting a huge amount just to dump the cars and bring down the overall pricing and reputation of the brand? Conspiracy theory I know but something to think about until we get dealers nationwide. ;)

I actually wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. The salesman I talked to said Genesis corporate wouldn't let them discount any more. Obviously he may have been just saying that but this is the same guy that gave me over $10k off on my first Genesis and other huge savings for my friends.

So I used to go into the Hyundai dealership that used to be close to my house for either purchasing a car or shopping around and every November I would see whatever the top end Genesis at that time was from the model year (G80, Equus, etc etc) and almost every year there would be some ludicrous savings written on the windshield. Last November specifically, the they had 12k+ written off the MSRP price. That is prior to negotiations, so I can assure you that the dealer that told you that Genesis won't allow them is likely lying.

Actually your story would lend credence to the theory and that they are not lying, wouldn't it? This year due to the dealer network changes there could be that policy. From the postings here we saw big discounts prior to the summer when the changes started happening.

And yet there are no huge discounts being reported. People keep denying the reality of the situation and want to believe this is an aberration instead of the new realty for Genesis which now NOT Hyundai. Of course the price will drop eventually just as we will all die eventually.

Personally I am moving on for now. I feel good to have my money in my pocket and have no doubt that they will get what they are asking for the cars. (The dealer I was working with just sold a white AWD Sport while I was negotiating.) Some folks want the car more than I do or just have more discretionary money. I think these are very good cars with a few flaws and I may revisit them when their dealership issues are resolved.
mgg

Maybe. I could be wrong. Unfortunately, I am slowly aligning with mgg, and may just move on if I don't find anything by the new year. Time will tell what these dealerships are going to do.

Yeah, it’s extremely frustrating. I am not giving up as I have been waiting 4 long years to get back into a Genny. “Buy towards the end of the year” as they say for big savings. Probably under any normal vehicle situation but clearly not with the Genesis G80 Sport at the end of 2018. That all being said, I have one dealership in Vegas (Henderson) that just got the G70’s so I assuming the 2019 G80’s have to be soon. Patience is definitely not my strong suit but if I have to see one more silver Genesis, I am going to scream. Lol. To all of the smart insiders on these forums, anyone have any idea when we can see more widespread availability of 2019 G80’s?

Henderson has had 2019s for about a month already. We have members here that have bought from them. Currently 5 G80s, one being a Sport.

So the final lease offer I got on a 2018 G80 3.8L AWD Ultimate today:
$679 plus tax ($765 in my state) with no money down
$625 plus tax ($690 in my state) with $2500 down
I said no thanks. :(

From my experience what I believe has happened is that the Genesis dealers have found a way to make more money from the cars buy holding on to them. I know this sounds strange but the longer they hold on the more incentives they get from Hyundai and they do not pass all those incentives on to you. They keep them. The last car I tried to purchase was listed on the dealers website for $57,170 it was a new AWD Sport. (They said it was new?) When I tried to purchase it with the lease money discount the total price came to $59,974 which was $1,049 over the list price ($58,925) of the car and this did not include taxes or other purchase fees.

So they raised the price of the car $2804 over their advertised price which is more than they could have gotten for the car 6 months ago. Now there are probably incentives that should have gone to me as well. (If there are guess who is getting them?)
The reason I feel like there are incentives is because the first dealer I went to said he could get me $2000 in incentives and never said anything about the lease money even though he was setting me up to purchase the car as a lease.

The last car with lease money would have cost me $53, 974 before taxes, title change and licensing. They said that was $9000 in savings but when I asked them to show me the $9000 in savings they got very defensive and said that the price included lease taxes and fees but did not show me the lease taxes and fees either.
I don't consider $53,974 to be a good deal on a 1 year old car of this price so I wouldn't purchase it for that anyway. But it irritates me that I feel like the dealers are stealing incentives that Hyundai intended to give to me so that the dealer could sell the cars. If I could actually get $9000.00 off the MSRP I would have purchased the car. (But this is a want not a need and I have learned to walk away from anything. The correct deal always shows up eventually.)

So I guess it is good work if you can get it and I don't begrudge them getting as much as they can for the car. I'm sure they will sell it and might even make more if they wait til December or January. It's a good car and people are willing to pay what they are willing to pay.
