  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What do you think about the KDM hood ornament on the Equus?

I am thinking to replace the Equus hood flat emblem with the KDM frying eagle hood ornament. What do you guys think? Is it too much for a Hyundai?

Typo on "flying", or is it actually called "frying eagle"? Like eggs over easy? ;-p

I think it's awesome, and certainly no more out of place than Jaguar's Leaper ornament. Come on man, it's 2011 -- Nothing is "too much" for a Hyundai!

I like it! I'm from the 'old school' and many of the cars from my childhood had emblems such as that. Had a Model A Ford that I restored in the 60's and put a "Flying Lady' on the radiator of that. I've owned several Mercedes and liked the star on the hood. I guess I was lucky though and never had one knocked off. They always lasted for as long as I owned the car.

IF I get an Equus, I will also look for the flying eagle.

Are sure it wasn't a "Frying Lady"? ;-p

I got my "frying" eagle hood ornament, not install yet. waiting for some members here make the move first, then I follow.

I like the flat badge.

Personally, I prefer the flat emblem.

If you like the other emblem, then do it. It's not our opinion that counts, it's yours.

I did it to mine. I personally like the look of the 3D hood ornament. I agree with NOLa, its really up to you. Do what YOU prefer =)

I think it looks just fine with the big ornament and may even consider that on mine when I get it. I'm waiting on the 5.0 liter 8-speed. My BMW 750Li lease is not up for another month and I have an extra Titan LE crew cab 4x4 (that I use just to pull a boat) that I can drive for a while until the new model comes out.

I ordered one of the OEM KDM flying wing ornaments but haven't gotten it in yet. From the photos of the ornament, it appears to have a support bolt that passes through the hood--is that correct? Is the hole already there? Did you have to do any drillling to replace the flat badge with the winged ornament?

The more you can tell me about the install procedure, the more I'd appreciate it!

I figure if I never put it on my Equus, I can at least make a great-looking trophy out of it.

I would keep in mind the fact that Mercedes no longer uses 3-dimensional hood ornaments in the US, and Rolls Royce's hood ornament is retractable when the car is parked. The reason for this is that kids (even if upscale places) will likely steal your ornament by breaking it off, sometimes damaging the hood (not to mention cost of constantly replacing the ornament).

The hood already has the holes to accommodate the KDM hood ornament. You do not need to modify the hood in anyway. I was able to get mine on there with a wing nut and some washers. As for theft, when I park in an area where I feel someone would try and steal the ornament I simply just remove it (takes only a minute or so) and replace it with the original one. I slightly modified the original so it bolts on in a similar manner as the 3D emblem. I notice that people will always stare at the 3D emblem and look confused ;)

If you need some more clearification, I am happy to help.

If I get an Equus, I'm going to use the wine stopper they sent me for a hood ornament!

My 2011 E350 Bluetec has the traditional 3-D Mercedes star hood ornament proudly sticking up from the hood. I believe all E350 Sedans still have the ornament. The E Coupes use the integrated Star-in-the-grill. The Luxury model C-class has the stand-up hood ornament as well.

What? In 2009 you choose a Volvo over the Genesis, and now in 2011 you choose a Merc over the Genesis? I guess you like the Genesis forum more than the car.

So...how do you remove the original emblem? Is it glued on, so heat ... then cut with fishing line? Any pics of your modification to the original for quick change? I have the "bird" so I'm ready to do it.
