  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What's your vision for Genesis? The brand... What would you like to see them do? A new car? A new CUV? A new EV? What? High performance? Ultra luxury? What can Genesis do that would make you say, "Wow! I'm proud to be a Genesis owner - and I'm going to remain loyal forever."?

Good question, Sal. It’s all about dealer service presence and quality. They’ve gotta be there and they have to do honest and dependable work. No more abandoned owners!

It's simple really. You can produce the most luxurious, best looking vehicles on Earth, but if the customer service isn't there after the sale, people will be one and done. Genesis NEEDS more exclusive dealerships so that the luxury experience continues throughout the entire ownership experience. I came from Acura, Infiniti, and Lexus and although my local Hyundai dealership treated me well, it was nowhere the experience I had with the others. I haven't had any service experiences yet but I'll say the waiting room and amenities at the Hyundai dealership most certainly aren't what I'm used to. Some might think that's a lil snobby but I didn't pay $75K after taxes and fees for that experience. In the end, we all just want what we paid for. ✌️

Yeah, all of the above. They also need enough well-trained service techs, and parts, like differentials and sunroofs (for example!) that don't take weeks or months to arrive.
After handing out case numbers to their customers who are having issues, they need to follow up and actually resolve the issue.

1) Re-focus on building a better quality product at a competitive/lower price point than competitors to build customer base. Quality and price/value were good in 2009 at inception of brand. Price has increased and quality gone down since then. My 2011 Genesis 3.8 made it to 100K miles with only required maintenance. My 2018 G80 3.3T has been in the shop excessively (tranny replacement, turbo oil line recall, subsequent turbo oil line replacement, etc.)

2) Need major improvement in Dealership service. With poor quality comes more visits to dealership. The service at my 2 local Hyundai/Genesis dealerships is horrendous. Delayed/lengthy repair time, general incompetence, no or low end loaner vehicles and poor communication with customer.

3) Genesis needs to be a separate/exclusive dealership, not co-located with Hyundai. It's been 5-6 years since Genesis re-branded. If they want to be a premium brand they need separate buildings like Acura, Lexus and Infiniti.

This. I have friends that love my GV70 but will absolutely refuse to go to a Hyundai dealership. A lil "nose up in the air" but it is what it is and it's their prerogative. The Classic Auto Group in Mentor, Ohio has recognized this and just built a state of the art Genesis dealership down the road from their Hyundai dealership. I know a salesman there and he stated that sales have gone up as a result. They're double the distance from me and where I got my GV70, but I may go there for service anyway.

It's actually been 7 years already since the U. S. launch and GMA and it's retail network are largely lacking acceptable customer service.
Wasn't the first Genesis model year 2017?

Perhaps your friends can arrange to meet the Genesis salesman at a secret location, or some classy hotel. I've heard the same thing before.
Some of the Hyundai dealers do give the Genesis a bad name and have poor service. I'm hoping the new dealerships will make a difference and customers get the promised services. They really got off to a bad start with the franchise problems at the start.

Yep, my friends annoy me with their holier than thou attitudes sometimes but it's their money. So, I guess they can do what they want. For me, I didn't want to pass on the GV70 just because it was at a Hyundai dealership. That being said, there is a BIG difference based on my experiences.

I haven't dealt with customer service yet, so I have no experience with that. But, they pretty much rolled out the red carpet for me when I came in to test drive and right after, sign my name for the car.

I would love to see a car similar to the G70, but with a twist of G80 with it. High to ultra performance, but with lots of luxury. (Think 440HP and 475TQ would be nice., but also very pricey. o_Oo_O)

We didn't seriously consider Tesla because of their reputation for sloppy build quality and being 100 miles from the closest dealership. Genesis has a presence in markets Tesla cannot reach with a superior product. Genesis has a wonderful opportunity if it can figure out the service end and satisfy the expectations of the owners they have won over from the competition.

Two options. Change the perception that Hyundai is low end with poor service or distance Genesis from Hyundai. Doing both would be ideal, and products like the Palisade is a step in the right direction. But building a small store front next to the larger Hyundai dealership, changing the color of team shirts and sharing service facilities doesn't accomplish this. And daylight is burning.

Changing perception is not easy. When Hyundai first started selling the Excel, it really was a cheap car. If it was more than a couple of years old, the primer was showing through the worn tops surface paint.

I bought my first Sonata in 2007 and now I'm on my 6th Hyundai/Genesis car. If you asked my in early 2000 or so, no, not interested. They have overcome a lot, but still have to get the dealers upgraded.

Oh, so why did I buy a Hyundai in the first place? I got fed up with some of the crap quality in Made in the USA Big Three cars.

My first Hyundai was a 2002 Sonata. Have had around 10 Hyundai’s and Genesis since then with no major problems.

It'll be interesting to see where Genesis is in 3 - 5 years. The commitment to EV only, the pressure from "upscaling" stable-mates like Telluride and Palisade, the de-contenting (IMO) of the 2024 GV80, the nearly nation-wide issues with dealership service and their ability to fulfill the promise of a luxury experience. Also interesting to see is where Lexus lands in all this. The Lexus dealership experience bought them a huge marketshare from the get-go - you'd have thought that Genesis would have learned this easily visible lesson. But the build quality for Lexus is now trending toward an upscale Toyota, so there could be some wiggle-room in Genesis market-share capture. And Toyota's overall reluctance to commit to EV is a very interesting strategy. BMW, Audi, Merc, etc. all have the luxury experience well in hand - I'm curious if those brands are Genesis' target market anymore. I'm personally thrilled with my Genesis dealership experience (my local dealership is stunningly good) - but most aren't. And the cure for that is expensive, because it's all after-the-sale. I'm immensely disappointed in the interior of the refreshed GV80 - to me it looks like Lincoln Aviator-Lite™ - but we'll need to see it in person. Curious about the GV90 and its design language.

In the 1990's if you told me that I would buy a Hyundai, I would laugh in your face. In 2002, like you I got my first Sonata, Got a Santa fe in 2007 and another Sonata in 2009. From there I went luxury with a BMW, Acura, and a Audi. And now my GV80. I personally have had no issues with Service, but if they don't get it figured out to a point that it worries me like it does now if I have a serious issue, I will not buy another one.

Would it worry you based on your dealer? Or does all the negatives posted here influence the decision?

I bought (and serviced) from three different dealers in different states and have not had the negatives others had. Maybe I'm just lucky or they maybe just really like me more.
