  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm new to the Hyundai family having just purchased a 2015 base model in December. I have seen reference to the G60, G70, G80 but don't know what those numbers refer to. Can anyone explain please?

Thanks,
Harry

in short it means we are going to see some new Genesis models soon. I cant wait!

Guess I need the long answer. Still don't know what it means.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Hyundai has announced that in the future they are going to make what is currently the Genesis and Equus into their own car line. Think how Toyota is to Lexus or Honda is to Acura. In the future Hyundai will be the Toyota and Genesis will be the Lexus.

The G70, G80, etc... is what the specific models will be named. Like how BMW has their 3 series cars, 5 series, etc...

Therefore in the future you will be buying a Genesis G80 instead of the current situation of a Hyundai Genesis.

Make sense now?

We're all not as smart as you.

It takes smarts to Google? In the time the OP took to post here (twice) they could have easily found the answer themselves. But, unlike you, I did actually post something to answer the OP's question too.

Starting with the 2017 model year (later in 2016) the Genesis Brand will be created. It will be owned by Hyundai Motor in Korea (like the way Ford owns Lincoln) but the vehicles will no longer carry the Hyundai brand name, even though they will be sold by Hyundai dealers (at least initially).

Because of this, they will get new model numbers. The Gnn is just a model number.

Genesis Sedan
  • 2016 - Hyundai Genesis Sedan
  • 2017 - Genesis G80 (G800 in Korea)
Equus
  • 2016 - Hyundai Equus
  • 2017 - Genesis G90 (G900 in Korea)
They will create some new luxury models called the G60, G70, etc, that will be a smaller sedan and CUV/SUV, etc.

I understand now. And I did google but figured I would get an expert answer here. Which I did. Thanks!!

Not exactly - that link just takes one to the Genesis Motors forum - not a specific thread. Try it yourself:

...which is one click that includes a list of threads all on the topic the OP inquired about. Besides driving to his house and bringing Chung Mong-koo and the entire Seoul team, it's a good start.

(Do they still have card catalogs? Libraries?)

Good old Dewey Decimal System...

My question is will they now have glass on the car without the flying H on them? I tried Google. No answer :D
